Turbo nose on a N/A, anyone done it?
I bought a turbo nose and while I had the front end off my latest project a 83 944 I thought I would test fit the turbo nose. Knowing that the finders need a little trimming but not knowing that the crest section had a different radius I was REALLY BUMMED OUT! I was woundering if I could get one of Turbo guys to measure from the joint between the hood down across the crest to the bottom of the center cection. Both of my N/A cars measure 11-1/4" from top to bottom. I am looking to conferm a difference (longer) on a turbo center section.

The finders will bolt right up to the three holes just fine but a small amount of trimming must be done at the very front edge where the turbo nose goes up at an angle instead of a sharp 90 degree bend. Its that stupid center section that seems to be a little different. I need about a inch more right in the center and fading left and right to make it look good. easy to cut hard to add kinda deal.

If you are using original Turbo bumber you will need some other stuff also:
-Headlight covers
-The panel between the headlights
-front fenders
These parts are little bit different on Turbo's

I have been pursuing this project as well. N/A front fenders will work with a small amount of trimming as you have discovered. They are no wider than turbo fenders they just hace that liitle notch for the N/A bummper. I actually bought a left fender from a turbo to get the radius to trim the N/A fenders. The piece that fits between the head light covers is different. It is slightly longer front to back with a bigger arch in the front. Two options here, there are some aftermarket body kit companies that offer vented versions for under $200.00 or look for one on ebay, in fact I saw two on there recently. Each went for fairly cheap. Also the headlight covers are different. Just keep looking. This time of year people are willing to let extra stuff go cheap. Also are you going to put the skeletonized metal turbo under bumper on? Another ebay find of mine was one of these for a whopping $25.00. I don’t know if the N/A bumper shocks are the same. Probably not and that will be something else I will have to find. Take your time aquiring the parts and look for the deals. If your going for the complete turbo look I see rear valances on ebay quite often. The side skirts are rare but I got mine from a junkyard here in town. Good luck and keep us posted on how this project goes. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I have been wondering, is the metal 951 bumper brace glued to the bumper cover or is it bolted to it somehow? I'm pretty sure the bumper shocks on the Turbo are shorter than the N/A. I have a nose that is made for the non-turbo so it has the proper bend and fender contour, but no good attachment method. My thought is to source a 951 brace and bumper shocks and use them for the installation of the copied nose. I *think* I would need to bend the 951 bracket to straighten it, not to sure about this though. What I DON'T want is a car with absolutely no bump protection in the front. Just installing it without the shocks or any reinforcement scares me....

That is good question. I haven't gotten a 951 bumper / front valance yet so I don't think the 951 under bumper will work with anything but a 951 bumper. it is because of the curve of the thing. I too would be concerned with nothing in front. I am toying with the idea of a 924 GT nose and i will have to "make something" to go under it if I go that route.

IPSC,
I like the 924 Carrera GT bumper A LOT. That is a consideration of mine as well.
The strange thing is that I know a lot of people have installed the repro 951 nose and I have yet to get a definitive answer from anyone on what sort of bracing they used. I know a few people on the board here don't have any bracing (like SHAUN), but that scares me a little.
Anyone want to help us out and shed a little light on this subject?

Anyone know who manufactures a fiberglass Turbo nose for the na? Someone must. Website?
While I'm on the subject....why is it NOBODY makes an aftermarket Turbo rear under valance?!! Seems like lots of us would consider buying it especially when they cost $300 plus most places you look. This could be a nice little cottage business for one of you that has fiberglas skills. I'll buy the first one if the price is right.

Dan,
GT Racing does (Don't remember their site address but do a search). They have a nice catalog on PDF.
So does Tweeks and a few others.
Again, none of them are any help when it comes time for the actual install. There is no bracket that comes with the nose and no instructions for fabricating anything.

The n/a bumper shocks will not work with the aluminum bumper support under the cover. I tried it. The spacing which the bolt goes into is different. Just get an AIR fiberglass kit instead of cutting your fender. That will allow you to convert back to stock anytime.
