Question startup question 2

another startup question. reminder, this car has been sitting, and had bad gas. possibly has been started with bad gas. new fuel pump. anyway, it has been ran in the past 2 weeks(started and run) now it will just turn over, no start. what could be the culprit of it not starting.

How long was the car sitting? It could be anything from a bad fuel pump relay (also called dme relay), bad dme, bad flywheel reference sensors, to a broken timing belt (which means you most likely bent some valves. Don't forget it could be just plain old water in the gas tank.

Also check if the ignition rotor turns when you crank over the car (obviously a two-person operation). Sometimes the lock screw disappears and the rotor just windmills on the shaft.

Determine what's missing: fuel or spark. Then go on from there.

fouled spark plugs, remove and inspect, clean or replace and reinstall. While the plugs are out you can plug one into a plug wire and crank the engine, sorry, lay the spark plug against a metallic part of the engine, see if you have spark. Listen to the injectors as the engine is cranked, use a screwdriver as a stethescope. listen at the rear of the car as it is being cranked for fuel pump whine, you should be able to hear the pump run. Good luck, Mark

no, i did not see a spark, but they were cleaned. can a spark plug actually quit working? i understand that there might be bad connections. can the fuel pressure regulator get clogged wth bad gas?
