Earliest 951?
#16
Some of these that were bought to the states in 85 were gray market cars. They came in on kc's as hole baggage as military baggage .I know of several of these occasions. I saw that happen twice. If they were registered on a military base in Germany they went right through customs and were simply reregistered in the appropiate state. Can't do that anymore because of military regs now.Bought an original 76 911 3L Carrera factory wide body that came in that way.

[quote] does the "150187" mean his is car 187 and mine was 412?

As far as I can tell, I think it would make his car a bit earlier. Not by much though. His is pretty bare bones. No alarm, central lock, cruise control, leather....zero, nada, ziltch. I think the only options are a sunroof and a stereo. But has only 70K.

Trucks are not passenger cars. This rule pertained to cars, not trucks. Trucks didn't have to carry a third brake light until years later, I think.

Oh...well, you said 'anything'...a truck is an anything. That being said...when the hell did trucks become standard with a 3rd brake light? /me shrugs.

Good question. ??????? I would guess sometime in the mid-90's. That's when I noticed that they started to have them, anyway. Maybe someone here has the definitive answer.
(wasn't being snooty, by the way....sorry if I came acrossed that way...darn internet.)

Stirring this thread from the archives, today I took a look at an 86 944 T, production date 4/85. No brake light, late dash, factory roll cage. VIN WPOAA0954GN150061
Is it the 61st 951 built?
(The cage issue is probably more interesting)

Holy old thread!
factory cage, interesting indeed, Was it for sale in OH Dan?
Michelle, it should give a month/year on the sticker (Can't remember if its in the door or the engine though)

Sorry, not for sale. A PCA Instructor has been whoopin on her for 15 years or so and plans to keep on it. We were just talking about the car, sitting around in the garage on a rainy Drivers Ed day. It was interesting to me since it seems very early and rare. This car has played bit parts in my track videos.

Yup. The rules are different for passenger vehicles and trucks. All 86+ passenger vehicles were required to have the third brake light.

There was a 944 turbo in 1984 that porsche did tests on and stuff. It was later destroyed. I used to have a picture of it, but i dont know where it went.
