SOT: Sell the 914 and buy a ...
I moved to Germany in late July last year as you all know. I took my 74 2.0 with me. Since then the car has had a lot of repairs done to it. Including an engine removal, new floors and some minor things. I have a custom 6 speaker set-up in it (all Blaupunkt), new suspension etc.
A lot of people have been trying to get me to sell the car (because they are rare over here in Germany) and I could probably get a good price for it. The problem is, I really love this vehicle and it's my first Porsche. Think I should bite the bullet and do what's financially smart?
Note: I'm also moving back to CA so I can't afford to take it with me right now. In california I would look into Purchasing either another 914 or a nice 944S or Turbo even.
Any advice appreciated?

It would be a little while. During that time I'd likely be walking.

Many will tell you not to get a 944S (the flame war may now begin). How much do you think you can get for the 914? Do you want to borrow or do you have money on top of that? If you can only afford ~$5k, get a nice 944. If you can go to ~$8k-$10k, get a 951 or 944S2.

Sell the teener? I bet that is a heart wrenching (no pun intended) question! Mine is a complete basket case and I won't even seriously consider making it go away, at least yet.
But I do LOVE the 944. It runs and everything. You should be able to get 5K for the 914, put it right into the right 944 and enjoy! Plus the 944 should be easier to continue to smog cert in California.

I wouldn't sell it... not after all the work you have put into it. In my short ownership of my NA I have had a few really good offers relative to what I paid for it, and I just can't get myself to sell it. I don't know about you, but after all that work making it just the way you like it, it seems like a shame to start all over. Just my thoughts, of course.

Man, is this a problem! I have an 84 944 that is a pleasure to drive, but it isn't nearly as much fun to drive as my tired old 914. Mine is a 73 1.7 and it has been my best buddy since 1986 when I bought it from the owner of Stuttgart Haus of Parts with a wrecked right front and blown motor. I don't know how much it will cost to get it shipped home, but best buddies are darned hard to replace. I've owned a 924, 928, and 944. Everyone has its specialty but none have been as much fun as a 914 with the top off.

I just had a brain overload because of my extreme genius (no need to make fun now)... well anyway, I just realized I have a 93 golf. I'll sell it then I have money to ship the 914. But have no fear, I'll be joining your little forum with a 944 before the year is over <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
Thanks a lot guys.

Think you could show us some pictures of the stereo setup? You could start a thread on the 914 list if you want. We're setting something up for my son's 914.
If you're coming to the west coast, there's lots to choose from, any other place you're probably better off with your anti-rusted machine.
