Post tire help?

I purchased a used set of wheels and tires and I need to know which direction these should travel. Here is a picture of the tire. Each side of the tread looks different. Can any one advise?
They are Yokohama av1's.

on the side of the tire there is usually a little arrow that you can look at to see which way to put on the wheel. put it on so that the arrow points in the direction that the wheel would turn if you were going forward

Also some tires that have a tread that looks different on each side has 'mount this side in' or 'mount this side out' on the sidewall. Look for this and mount them on the wheels accordingly. Tires with this message are not directional in the sense of left or right side of the car but must be mounted so a particular side of the tread is on the outside edge or the inner edge...

Those are the AVS intermediates you mean?

They aren't directional, but put the side of the tire with the more dots (dimples, whatever) on it facing outside.

If you want to be sure, it says "this side out" on one side of the tire.

those tires are not directional, the side with holes in two rows of blocks is to be mounted outward. They are yoke. avs intermediates, great tires but are no longer in production, unfortunately. I am running a set now on my 89 951 and will have to replace them soon. I have not yet decided what to put on in their place.

Thanks everyone. I figured the inside/outside by the rim. I just wanted to make sure I had the tires going in the same rotation as PO. I figured out by the wear on the tire which side of the car the tire s/b on.

I have a pair on the front that seem to be half worn after ~5k miles and 5-6 autocrosses with 2 drivers and 1 DE (again, 2 drivers). By half worn, I mean half the tread is gone.

I'm replacing them with Yokohama ES100's front and rear.
