Not quite sure where to hunt this info down, so I thought I'd bow to the collective wisedom of you guys.
On my '87 944 the power steering return hose is perished, the one out of the rack (or so my mechanic says). He chased the part for me but found it only on back order until the end of Jan, which probably means at least the end of Feb.
I suppose my question is two fold,
a) Are the power steering systems on all 944/944S/951/S2s etc the same?
b) Is it worth putting in a used part from a parts car, bearing in mind it's perished once before.

Martin, all the p.s. systems are the same as far as hoses are concerned, the return line from the rack goes to the cooler and is metal line all the way up to the frame rail. If it is a return line it is not under pressure and any oil resistant line (hose) and a couple of good hose clamps should be able to fix a leak. Sorry there is a short section of hose where it attaches to the rack, if that is where it is leaking it would be more difficult to repair but it should still be possible to remove the orig. hose from both the fitting and the metal line and replace it with a new piece. I will try to remember to check stock at work on monday and see if we have that line in stock. I think I remember seeing a few p.s. hoses in the parts dept.
Good luck Mark T.

Thanks Mark T.
I will check the part number on Monday, as I know my mechanic described the part to the supplier, they sent something, it turned out to be the wrong bit, so they sent him an exploded diagram to pick from.
Note: the mechanic is not a Porsche specialist, but a great guy so far, and he's litteraly next door to my work place.
Now it just looks like my head gasket has gone....grrr.

Anyone know if Porsche changed this p/s line? Some have a rubber hose section on one end (cooler connection), and others have rubber sections on both ends. Thanks.
