I've got another thread going about buying a 87 951...
I got the option codes from the seller and didn't see anything there for LSD or ABS.
I was reading somewhere online that LSD was standard in the Turbo's and thus it isn't listed as an option code? Can someone confirm or deny?
What about ABS? Assuming that was an option on all models since so many people actually wanted these cars with no ABS.

I believe that the LSD was an option on all 44 varients
I think that ABS was standard on at least the latter years but not sure. Every later S2 or turbo I drove had ABS

I don't plan to race this vehicle and don't live in an area with snowy/slippery roads. Would you say that either/both of these options is a must have?
Also, the car I'm looking at is in fantastic shape. 87 951 w/ 73k all service records...this year alone - new clutch, timing belt, new michelin tires, water pump and others...asking $10k.
Does the absence of LSD and ABS change the price any?

Manufactur Year 1989 had Limited Slip and ABS standard. In 1987 both were options. My 944S didn't have ABS and my 968 does. I prefer non-ABS as it provides a truer brake/pedal feel.
IMHO.

In fact, if you're a "driver" old ABS sucks and is a minus in my book. I had to bypass it on my pickup when I used to play around off-road. Sometimes you expect to be able to lock up your brakes to slide in the mud when you've learned how to drive on old crap.
LSD is very nice. But not a deal killer in my opinion if you're looking for a DD and not a racer. In fact, you'll rarely notice the difference unless you are driving on slippery roads or racing AND know what an LSD does for you by feel. Example: my pickup again - I ordered it with a posi front and read (Ford and/or Dana LSD I forget who owns the term Positraction). In any case, the truck is a monster compared to other supposedly more capable vehicles. When I lived in NC I can't count how many Jeeps I pulled out of the sand on Bodie Island in my less-capable-by-reputation vehicle.
For going fast, LSD really helps you to put the power down, especially coming out of the twisties. Its nice, and I'd like to have it, but I still have a blast in the garnet reg slug.

Code sticker in the trunk, code stamped on top of the tranny, and physical test by spinning one wheel while both rears are off the ground in neutral. If both spins, then its LSD but very unlikely will there be one.

Is it worth the upgrade - how would one know if LSD was something that they needed to have after driving it for awhile?

In 1987 they were both options. Nuff said. There are ways to check if it has these items or not. LSD has already been stated. ABS is a little more tricky, but the brain is located in the passenger side footwell just forward of the door. Pull the carpet back and look for a shiny metal box.
