Water Pump woes
I took my water pump off tonight. First I could see that it was only the gasket leaking then realized that one of the bolts was not tightened all the way. Then three of the bolts would not come out. I tried working them out slowly putting rust penatrant on them. They broke off anyway. Now I have to go out of town tomorrow so I won't get to work on it till next week. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />
Plus having to drill them out.

Ouch... I have personally done that. It is very very very very very very very hard to remove the remainder of the studs while the motor is in the car. Use some gentle heat on the remainder of the studs, and with a very good pair of vice grips, try and remove them. If you snap them off, you can attempt to drill them out, but with minimal room, and the soft aluminum block, be very careful not to chew up the block.

There are 3 proken off flush with the block. I will use the old pump as a guide, to drill them out. I have done this many times, but it always makes me nervous. Especially when its my car.

Bader; use the pump just to start the hole on center ,then a small drill thru ,then a LEFT HAND DRILL WHEN YOU GET CLOSE TO THE TAP DRILL SIZE.The stud should just unscrew then.Forget their size ,but if the boltis 6mm use Lh 3/16 max ,if 8mm use 1/4 Lh drill.HTH
