Unhappy AC compressor r134a filler fittings ???

My AC is not running due to no gas in the system. I went to a shop where they trid to fit the new R134a fillling valve on the compressor. But the mechanic was not able to fit it, and said to remove the genrator to make space.

I took the R134a nipple (a 90 deg. angled type) with me and tried to fit it by loosening the Compressor on the belt tensioner, screwing it on, and then tigten. But it broke. It touches against the compressor mounting, and tensioning the belt brakes the fitting.

There seem to be no space for a R134a fitting on the compressor.

How do you other rennlister's do ? ? ?

The P.O. said that he had converted to r134a but should'nt the filling nipple's have been updated ??

When you convert, do you use the original filling valves for R12 ???

When mine was converted they replaced the nipples to R134a standard.

I have heard that the 134 adapters are supposed to lock themselves onto the R12 port once they are screwed on so nobody can take them off and mistakenly hook up a R12 machine to a system with 134 in it.

The 86 and earlier cars had the connection on top so they can use the adapters. The 87 and later have the low side under the car and it is too close to the compressor to use the adapters and still be able to attach the compression hose attachment. We just spliced an r12 hose to an r134 hose, with the 12 side to attach to car to charge and the 134 side of the hose to connect to the freon can. Just remember you have 134 in the system since you can't just look at the connectors to realize this. Worked great. LOL...

I altered the bracket that the fitting conflicts with, and the new 90 deg. adapter just fits. I had to cut away about 1.5 cm of material.

R134a is a quick disconnect and will not fit the R12 without an adapter.

The 2 are not interchangeable as far as I know.
