dream about timing belt breaking, next morning it breaks on wife
re-fricking-dickulous
i had a dream last night about a broken timing belt on my car
this morning the wife goes to drive the 924S, hears it turn over once then a catastrophic event, then it wont turn over
this car that is well taken care of, just had a 3 year old belt re-tensioned in july at a reputable porsche shop in town after a DIY cam housing gasket job
had a friend confirm the bad news
are you freaking serious?!!
more choice words and general shock

what's with all the 944 timing belt failures? so far in the past month or so I've seen like 6 people here with timing belt failures.
what was the milliage ?
I keep on hearing people here say to change the belt every 3 year regardless of milliage. But why does a belt on a honda civic last twice as much or longer?
new cars now recommend replacing the timing belt at around 100,000kms intervals. like the audi 1.8t I think is 100,000 kms recomendation
right now i'm getting paranoid, my belt, rollers and water pump are all 2.5 years old and about 20,000 kms on them.
do I really have to replace my belts in a couple months even with 20,000 kms?

new audi's go for so long because they're not belts, they're chains, just like my dad oldsmobile intrigue. honda's go forever because there's no strain on it. 132hp and 100tq really doesn't cause a belt to have as much stress on it, more the motor gets it. also some honda's have timing chains as well. also remember most of our cars are near the classic registry age of 25 yrs old.
