Default 944 stranded in Atlanta! Any suggestions?

Hi, all..

Well, the scenario we all dread happened to me, and I could use a little advice from locals in the Atlanta area. I was taking a long distance trip to move for a new job, and about halfway there, the engine quit. Had the car transported to a local shop who doesn't really know 944's, so we did some basic checking. The starter spins, but there's no compression.. There's fuel pressure, so it's probably not the DME relay. Haven't pulled the distributor off yet to see if it's moving. I suppose worst case is the timing belt broke which probably means bent valves The head is probably going to have to come off soon...

I'm in Pensacola now, so I'll have to locate a trustworthy 944 mechanic by phone. Can anyone recommend someone in the west of Atlanta (Newnan area) who I could try? I've searched the forums and got a few ideas but anything would help. Working with a new mechanic is worrying enough--let alone having to hire one without even being able to meet him....

there's a couple of guys (and gals) from Atlanta on here...I'm sure they'll get you figured out. I'm about to head down there later this month myself; hope I make it okay.

there was a discussion a few weeks ago about a 951 for sale on ebay in the atlanta area. the guys spoke well of the sellers shop. may want to search here for discussions on ebay cars for sale. it was a black low mile 951.

I've never had a problem with Automobile Atlanta. George is a good guy. I used to live less than ten miles from his shop and spent a lot of money there both in parts and service. 1-800-792-4944

It does sound like the belt let go and valves are bent.

You need to contact Albert (aribop). Just send him a PM. He lives on that side of town - over in powder springs. Personally before I took the car to Auto Atlanta I would search the forums for other people's experience with them.....

A shop in Atlanta that I trust is German Car Repair 770-649-8700. Jerry and Alan will take car of you there.

+1 on timing belt. No compression = not good.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone! I just got a great deal on getting the car towed all the way to Pensacola, so it looks like I don't have to do things remotely anymore. I suppose it does sound like the timing belt gave out, which is kind of strange since the belt has only about 15k miles on it.

Hahahaha, no it wasn't a sticker! It was a huge cardboard poster inside the car in the hatch with bullet holes shot through it!

You sure that's not you? Haha!
