Default Pop-up problem... :(

Hey guys i have a 83 944 and the headlight when i turn them on they dont go up however if i assist the lights up they go and stay up when i turn the switch off the go down w/o a problem this happends everytime.... anyone ever experience this?

The 2 causes I have seen in the past are 1) the relay is going bad or 2) and most common is the armature inside the motor is wearing out and not making contact.You can open the motor up and check this but be careful not to lose any parts and remember where all the pieces go!

ok cool ill take a look at it tomorow also all of the sudden my battery is DEAD.... i think this car still have the OEM battery..... still have the screw caps on it.

i'd be very suprised if that was the original battery. pretty much impossible and it sounds like the motor is just getting tired out.

Also, check the to see if the pins are still connected to the mail side of the connector at the motor. They corrode and cause weak/no perform situations.

Easy way to test if its the motor. Next next you turn the lights on and they don't rise up, hit the motor with your fist. If they come up its the motor.

Also try cleaning and lubricating the linkage. This corrected the problem mine had. At least prolonged the time until motor replacement.
