Default whoops...wrong power steering fluid

I used import power steering fluid (not ATF). Its freaking cold outside and dont really want to drain and replace (if its not an issue). Will this have adverse/detrimental effects on anything? It seems to turn smoother/easier now. Thanks.

I heard putting in the wrong fluid may cause leaks by ruining seals but I'm not sure. You're suppose to use AFT in a 944.

If you did something wrong you can keep doing it. Until you get punished

Drain it,
use the right stuff, no brainer really.

its easy to do and takes about 5 minutes, after you've got the car jacked up

Pentosin CHF is not correct for the 944? I've been using it for about a year now. Should I dump it?

It needs ATF. Using regular power steering fluid may ruin the seals in your rack.

PS fluid will eat the seals inside the rack and the pump,so drain or not to drain,$$$$$ for a pump and rack or five bucks foe the correct fluid. Drain it!

I have read that while ATF is the spec that regular mineral power steering fluid is not harmful. It might not have the seal-preserving additives and the detergents that ATF has but it is not going to damage anything by itself. I would not freak out, personally, but it would make sense to suck the old fluid out of the res a few times and replace with ATF one day soon. I would suggest doing this with the fluid nice and hot so any crud is well-suspended in the fluid. A cheap suction gun or even a turkey baster would work fine.

Factory manual says to use ATF Dexron II D oil.
ATF Dexron II or III.

Pulling the hose off the pump from down below is better/more thorough. I guess I'll get a quart of ATF over the weekend. I think the last time I bought ATF was for my 1976 Torino!

no need,
1> jack up car
2> undo banjo joint/clip/connection
3> drain
