Post help with engine cut-out

I drove an 89 normally aspirated car this week I am considering purchasing. the car has had an engine swap for another 89 engine (according to the owner) because he "blew the engine."

the engine seems strong but at a regular interval while driving, the car lurches and the tachometer dips momentarily before the car resumes regular driving. i've had 2 944s before and in the past it seems like this problem was from a bad DME unit.

does this sound like the same problem? if not, any ideas?

thanks,
Joseph

Either that or a bad connection somewhere. I had a bad contact that grew worse at my reference sensor on the sensor end that took me forever to find and it caused that problem. It felt completely random and happens anytime and caused the car not to start sometimes. Corroded contacts to the dme could do that too.
