Question Passenger window won't go up??

The passenger side window on my new (to me) '89 turbo won't go up. This happened once before, and the next day I started the car and it worked. I first thought it was maybe the motor, but it would go down just fine. Then I thought a switch, but neither the driver's switch or passenger switch will bring it back up. Is it a wiring issue?? How would I go about trouble-shooting the wiring??

Thanks---And I hope to see many of you at 944-Fest in July!!

You can rebuild thye switch- pry it off gently so as not to damage your door skin- remove the switch from the plug- Clean contacts on switch first- Try the window again. (Leave switch loose, as more ensues...)
If still not working, remove switch and gently pry the rocker (plastic) from the body of the switch and clean all contacts inside. I have done this about every year or so- When I bought my 924s 3 years ago NO switches were working.

Keep in mind- it may be the passenger control switch on the drivers side (As mine was) because BOPTH switches must work for the pass side to work... <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

CHRIS,

his window switches are different, he has to take his door panels off to get the switches off... not like our convenient early model type switches which i fixed myself without door panel removal.

ANYWAY... sounds like a bad switch(es), a loose connection, or some sort of electrical gremlin that should be squashed appropriately.

good luck with your window!

I'm fighting this same problem. I know my problem is not the switch b/c neither the driver's side switch for the pass. window or the pass. side switch make it go up but both make it go down. I even replaced both switches and had the same result.

Funny thing was/is that I took out the pass. wire set that goes into the switch and cleaned them out. Somehow I managed to reverse the wires on the pass. side window and ended up with a pass. side switch that only takes the window up and a drivers side switch that only takes the window down. Now I have to open it back up and straighten out the wire connectors.

Please let me know if you've, or anyone else, has had and fixed the "window will not go up problem."

SDorry- I assumed they were the same as mine- Good thing (Damn electrical) most of it is rebuildable by user (I hope in this case..)

Good luck- I have usually solved my problems here or other boards.

My Bad for inappropriate info-

ELSSUU- Ever since my fuel line went- a bright red fire extinguisher is my permanent passenger behind the drivers seat .. LOL hahaha <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

I have fixed the problem on my 84 944, it involved taking all the window switches out, and making the innards JUST LIKE the one that does the drivers side window, it turned out the switches had been previously removed, and the insides got messed up so only the drivers side would make the passenger window go. i made all switches the same and voila! works like a champ now. good luck solving this. sounds like you have a switch mixup, or a wiring issue.

<img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> have fun!

I had a simmilar problem and traced it to the wiring in the drivers door. (yes passenger window but wire fault was in driver door.) there is a feed from the passenger switch in the drivers door that feeds power to the passeger side. and the constant use of the driver door led the wire fail down where the wire in the door meets the body.

hope it helps

Chris is right about both switches working(at least its the same for my '88 944S). My switch for the passenger's window on the driver's side got stuck and melted last August.

The passenger's side switch would not operate the window, until I switched the driver's side control switch to control the passenger's side window(to close the window). Lucky for me, all it took to fix was buying a new switch.

I don't think I removed the panel either. I think it was one or two screws under where the switches are housed and the assembly came out.

Good Luck,
Mark

Thumbs up

Chris; You are THE MAN!

It took me having to take off two screws to get to the switch, taking the switch apart and a good cleaning of the contacts. I did both driver and passenger switches; and now it works great!

To me, this is a great example of the power of Rennlist. It would have taken me hours, days, or possibly even years to determine what turned out to be an easy fix.

Cheers to all!! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
