Default Odd sound from rear end of my '89 944

The other day It started....

the sound is coming from where the back left wheel is or between there and then transmission. It is a clacking that is speed dependent and only occurs under throttle. Happens for about 15 or so miles and then it quits.

Put the car up on the lift, inspected all of the axels and cv joints and they appear OK... any ideas?

thanks,

casey

Sounds like it might be CV joint. Mine thumped at the wheel once-around rate - thought I had flat-spotted a tire in a skid. Worse when loaded (on throttle, or cornering). Also, left side is consistent (left side usually goes first from exhaust heat).

CV's are known to make clacking noises when wearing out.

check the cheeseheads that bolt it to the tranny for tightness too...oh, and a repack of the cv joint grease might fix this for you.
