Post Wipers dead

I started having a problem with the intermoittent setting a few days ago- wipers would stop immediately when I switched the wiper lever to off. Today I was driving home (Check the radar- tornado today) in a torrential downpour the slow setting stopped working, fast was OK. By the time I got home (30 Minute commute) my wipers had stopped dead in the center of the windshield.

Torrential rain. view obscured by wiper arm. Luckily I was only about 3 miles from home when this occurred.
Rain-X until fixed....

Hopefully one of you Guru's can poimnt me which part is bad- relay, switch, motor
I read earlier posts but did not see this exact sequence of events...

Thanks in advance..

sounds like a wiper relay deal, about $80 new for you OUCH... the one in my 944 cracked, and the way it did it only stopped the intermittent from working, PLUS i had to stop the wipers in the position i wanted myself (BIG PITA) new wiper relay cured that, sounds like yours is fried. good luck troubleshooting!

I had a similar problem last fall when it started to get cold and rainy. Mine failed at any setting but I could get them going occasionally by switching speeds rapidly. This was enough to park them so I could open the hood.

I swapped out every piece of the system including the steering column switches (under airbag), wiper relay, and motor.

Turned out to be the motor even though I tested it on 12v and 6v outside the car and it worked fine it just wouldn't move in the car. I bought a new motor and rack off ebay and solved the problem. I now have working spares for the relay and motor/rack if you are interested.

After I replaced it I tore apart the old motor. The inside of the black can was completely rusted to the point where I couldn't recognize the magnets since they were completely covered with scale.
