Feels faster than it is?

Silverbullet- what year Civic? I can't imagine it feeling THAT bad at 100mph- I had my '89 Integra (may she rest in peace) above 120mph MANY times (even 130 down STEEP hills) and it never really felt like it was straining to keep up...

It's a 96 civic dx. At least that's what it felt like when I was in the car.

Could be the noise (although my car is quieter than the Civic), or the vibrations. I am sure I'll get use to it.
Dave--I dont have a shimmy--what I have is an "Oh Sh*t, something is horribly wrong" vibration! Feels like the wheels are OVAL shaped by the way the steering wheel is moving up and down!? I'd say the balance was done plain WRONG. It was fine with the loaner wheels. I do have some bad luck with getting stuff fixed right the first time!

I'm surprised the 944 is quieter than the Civic, but that really depends on the specs- I say this b/c my Integra was quieter than my Turbo S, and that was the 1st Gen Integra, so it was definately the loudest- above about 75mph though, things change- even the short overall ratio's of the 951 (particularly 5th) are tall compared to the Acura- at 80, I'm running ~3200rpms, whereas in the Integra, I was right at 4000.
When it comes to the '96 Civic that Silverbullet mentioned, I'm not too familiar w/them- that may be slightly before they started to refine them better- I've been in a few from '99 on up, and thought they felt pretty decent up to about 100mph, which is as fast as I can remember hitting- now days they're getting better Cx's, though and are more aerodynamic than our cars, but not sure about the '96's...
The cars are just really different- the vibrations, tones, etc- you should get used to it eventually- hopefully you'll get the balance situation fixed soon though- that sounds bad...

I had a brand new civic as a loaner when we took the minivan for service... nothing like the feel of the 944, I am sorry. It felt cheap and rattle when I push that pedal. Keep in mind that I had a '93 Civic Si (that one felt better than the new civic I drove)... maybe since it was a loaner it was treated badly... Now for the Integra, that is a different car from the civic... better all around.
Back to the topic... I too find myself going faster than what I think. Good thing we have cruise control.

Maybe I'm wrong then(?)- I've just been in several Civic's over the past two years or so, that have all been EXTREMELY new (and above '99), and they ALL felt nicer than my Integra- it never felt THAT great, as it was a 1st Gen- anyway, I was fairly impressed w/the last few Civic's I've been in- one was a V-tech. Don't get me wrong- I'd never want one, if for no other reason than they're just SOOOOO common, but evidently, they aren't as consistent as I would have thought...

Robby- I had an '87 Integra that I bought new in '87 (my first, and LAST new car). The gearing on that car sucked! I remember in 5th gear, how noisy that car was at highway speeds! I also wore out THREE clutches on that car! Race-bread my ***!

Maybe you're feeling what i mentioned eons ago. i enjoyed trips to the berkshires or killington in the legend coupe much more than the 944. that whas when the 944 had dunlop 8000's and the legend had 3 different sets of michelins. event he michelin snows with a rack on the roof was more enjoyable than the 944.
i'll tell you if its different now that i have michelin pilots on the 944. ill also tell you how the new aurora with 8cyls compares on a road trip to either the legend coupe or the 944.
its nice to know that since i sold the legend to a coworker i can get rid of the 944 and after getting a financial a$$ reaming from a so called freind get my reliable legend back.

Yeah, the gearing was pretty damn short in those cars- WAY too short for highway driving- the 88/89's had SLIGHTLY taller 5th than the 86/87's, but it only helped by ~200rpms at 80mph or so, and still, every 1000rpms in 5th, in an 88/89 is a HAIR under 20mph- the 951 is a hair over 26 (supposed to be- mines off in the mid ranges in 5th, but it seems to be right everywhere else). The Integra's were fairly quiet though, until you got a little over 65mph- they still didn't have as much overall noise at ~80mph as my 951, when taking into consideration, wind noise, tire noise, trans, etc- it just got wound up higher and got louder b/c of the short gears- the Legends though- when they were brand new, I thought they were amazingly quiet- of course, we've come a few years since then, and none of these compare to something like a new BMW 540i. Also, I'm about the opposite- If I can help it, I will never buy a USED car again- at least not one that's more than a couple years old (until OBD3 comes out, then, who knows?)- I would have come out much cheaper per month buying a new Audi S4 than my Turbo S, which I got for $9K BTW- some of us have had better experiences w/these cars than others- I'm so far into this thing I COULD NEVER RECOVER! I do like what (I think) the car COULD be though, and that's what keeps me going...

I got pulled over for 87mph in a 50 mph zone. I coulda sworn I wasn't going over 60!! Have you tried doing 50 on a highway? If you use 5th gear the engine just lugs. No fun allowed in Ohio. <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" />
