http://www.cars.com
PCA Classifieds - you'll either need to be a member to dig through the national database - or just go to each regional site and browse (which is what I did).
http://www.ebay.com/
I'm sure there are a ton of other sites too - I noticed that eBay was inconsistant but easy to search. Cars.com always had something but the prices were slightly high. Trader.com had the most cars, the best prices and great covereage and happens to be where I found my 86 951 for $6k 4 months ago. With the trader.com sites - try searching the classic car site too - and maybe hit up http://www.hemmings.com/. If you have local free 'for sale' papers - those are always a good place to look as a lot of people are more willing to advertise when it doesn't cost them money (or much money).
Basically, anywhere you'd look for ANY other car - you can probably use to find a Porsche.

I see your from Hawaii. I lived there way back when in the 80's! How far do you plan on looking in your search? Autotrader is good, carbuyer.com. roadfly classifieds...Just look out for way overpriced dealers! You will get better cars, prices and service history from buying from private owners/sellers! Good luck!

Do a web search for the following:
Porsche classifieds
Porsche classifieds digest
I'm pretty sure those will turn up the web sites that I'm thinking about. This was commented on earlier, but autotrader is a very good one also.
I actually found mine on carbuyer.com Some of the cars on there are outdated, but it is free to list them there so you'll find quite a few.

Also, Panorama magazine (PCA) had a bunch of 86-89 951's for sale, most in the $15k range though...asking price of course.
As people have said, it's good to buy a car from a Porsche fan that already did what needed to be done (and can show receipts to prove it)! Ads that mention belts, waterpump, clutch, mounts, shocks, ball joints/A-arms as being replaced are a great place to start!
