Yeah, the Z's look a lot better in person than they do in pictures, but I think the lines of the G35 Coupe are just that much better. I wonder how the look will hold up over time, but right now it is fresh and I think good looking.
As for performance (from car and driver for the touring Z)
0-60: 5.7
1/4M: 14.3
SP: .86 (thats skid pad)
So its no slouch, but they need to bring over the NISMO parts to spice it up a bit, and actually they are coming some time next year.

Russ: yeah kinda..
The g35 and the 350z look so much alike it's not funny.
I'm real familiar with the lines of the Z, and while it's got a great basic shape, the details screw it over.
Take the doorhandles, for example, that stick out like sore thumbs, and not only ruin the visual appeal of the doors, but also the airflow aroudn them.
The rear brace looks great and does a great job of stiffening the car, but its basically leaves you with less space in the back than a 911.

Yes. Nismo is Nissan Motorsports International, not to be confused with Nissan Motorsports USA. OK, be confused. It confuses everyone.
Basically Nissan Motorsports USA is a (sort of) independent company that Nissan uses to support their grass roots motorsports.
Nissan Motorsports International is also a (sort of) independent company that does much the same in the rest of the world, but they also have a great deal of serious stuff for the road car crowd (Need a 3 plate clutch for your Silvia or Skyline? They have it).
Nismo is indeed coming and one of my best friends is involved with it. They should have some serious stuff available.

Recently, I saw both cars at an Infiniti/Nissan dealership. I definately like the lines of the Z much better. The Z has a much more aggressive stance to it, especially from the front. On the G35 coupe, I especially don't like the rear fender flares: looks like it was put there as an afterthought.
The G35 Coupe is also going to be priced too high, IMO. Although leather is an option, according to the dealer, they aren't making any non-leather G35's, even if you special order! A bone stock G35 with a 5speed will run over $31k, IIRC. That's a lot of $$ for the car. The Z is supposed to start at $26k, but I'm sure most will be selling closer to $30k.
Regarding the rear strut tower brace on the Z: it stiffens up the chassis a little, but not much, and it makes the rear hatch not very user-friendly. I'd consider it a design flaw. Also: there's no glove box in the Z. But the view from the driver's seat is really nice.
The Z's power figures are: 287hp @6200rpm, 274 lb-ft @ 4800rpm. The G35's are: 280hp @ 6200rpm, 260 lb-ft @ 4800rpm. The G35 also weighs almost 200lbs heavier.
The 350Z Track edition sounds like a fun car! A 6speed, 18in wheels, Brembo brakes and other goodies make this car sound like a fun toy to play with!
Just my $0.42,
-Z-man.

Nissan and Infiniti are the same cars... Same deal as Toyota and Lexus... Haven't quite figured out why people buy Lexus and Infiniti yet, costs more for the same car and the same performance.

Rich, I agree. While the new Z looks striking I don't find any balance in its styling. Also, because the details don't mesh together in a fluid fashion I don't believe this car will look good 5 years from now, or say 20 years from now as some of our Porsches. (or the 240Z and 1990-1996 300ZX Z32)

Tariq summed it up. That's why there are so few Japanese classic cars, if any at all. I think the only "official" one is the white coupe the Bond girl drives in "You Only Live Twice."
Longevity wise, I'd sure like to see where these Nissans will be when they're 19 years old like my 83 944.

Well, my 12 year old G20 probably requires far less maintenance than a 12 year old 944 variant (and this with 207k miles). I don't know if I'll still have my G20 7 years from now, but I absolutely guarantee I'll have my SE-R. It has a little rust-thourgh in the door pillar, but it spent the first 5 years of its life in Rochester NY and didn't exactly receive special care during that time (to me then it was mainly an interesting tow car for my racing kart).

Yes, the Toyota 2000 GT... Very rare though, you are not going to find them just wandering around in the united states.
