Post OT: Saw a Ferrari Enzo yesterday....Wow...

The local dealer had one on hold for a local guy here that owns most of Columbus. The car is just sick, I almost wet myself. The carbon work is just beautiful.

Do you know that according to Car and Driver the oil changes on that thing will run you about $730. Also, the brake rotors will run you about $20,000. I guess that if you have to ask about the price of the maintenance though, then you won't be able to afford the $700,000 car.

Looking at the under carrige of the car it would take an hour just to get to the oil pan.

I just find it stupid that an oil change costs $730. A friend of mine told me he paid $130 to get an oil change in his new M3 and I just about slapped him. Obviously BMW has their own oil that is pretty expensive. I guess Mobil 1 can be good enough for the GT1 but can't benefit these cars.

All those prices may be stupid high, but its an enzo, if you can afford a 700k car you can afford an expensive oil change / brake rotor replacement, and really how many of these cars are going to be driven that hard that they need that sort of work a lot. That one in Car and Driver has to be one of the few that are really being pushed and I think its great.....

The more I read about the enzo the more I want one, its again a car I need to put out of my mind. But it is my ideal of what the perfect weekend car would be.... (Carrera GT is no slouch, but the enzo is just something else, I think its the first car that goes on my ultimate list with the dauer, f40 and 288 in a long time)...

I forgot what the price of the oil was but I believe that it was about $60 a quart (engine capacity is 12.2 quarts). Ferrari said that if you do not use this oil then they will not honor the warranty. Ferrari also estimated a replacement engine costing around $200,000.

130 for an oil change on an m3.... we changed the oil on my buddies 97 Dinan signature car in i would say 10 to 15 min.... BMW's are the easiest cars to do oil changes on.... Ours on the other hand are the biggest pain ever... getting to that oil filter is such a bitch...

As far as the Enzo's oil goes it was stated in Car&Driver it MUST use (or NO engine warranty and maybe a cool $200k payout) Shell's Helix 10w-60 synthetic oil. I have yet to research that stuff!!
$130 for a M3 oil change...I find that to be robbery. I wonder if the majority of that was labor or parts?

I gotta say I think the Enzo is gaudy and not a very nice looking car.

Just my opinion.

The new Porsche Carrera GT...Now THAT'S a pretty car!

I haven't bothered to look up if BMW has a line of oil products, but I guess it's possible. It is also very possible that the shop was leading him on because he knows nothing about cars.

If they are charging $130 for an oil change, they probably (or say they do) other things to check the general condition of the car; Such as check all fluids. brake pads, etc.

I know some shops that take a look over the car during oil changes so that the clueless types of owners won't let things deteriorate too much.

He probably paid for the really expensive oil and 1/2 hour plus another hour to check everything else.

Whether or not they actually did it....

Dealers make a killing off of oil changes and the like. No way it's worth $130.

And I don't think there is any special BMW oil... I bet they use Mobil 1, same stuff you get at Wal-Mart.

As for an Enzo, I have no clue. Just looking at that car must cost major bucks.

On a Boxster S, the 15,000 mile servicing consists of an oil change, pollen filter change, and a bunch of 'visual inspections.' It can cost $500 and up....for a glorified oil change!

OR you could get an oil filter and some Mobil 1 and do it yourself for $35.

I'm sure there is some benefit to having a shop handle an oil change (in the case a visual inspection turns up something), but people are grossly overpaying their dealers.

I believe the oil costs 8-12 bucks/quart at the BMW dealer. It still should be less that $130 though. Dunno what else was done to the car.

I don't understand you guy's. If the person buying the Enzo whats $730 for him. NOTHING This guy must have 20 million in his bank. Believe me when you have the much money $730 for him is like $5 for us poor people LOL. The same for the BMW M3 guy 130 is nothing. I have a friend who is a million air and when we out to the clubs he will spend about $5000 a night (buying drinks for all the ladies)etc, etc last week he paid the bouncer $500 just to get in without waiting in the line.

It sounds like your friend just enjoys flaunting that he has money. There is a difference. My friend did not want to pay the $130, but the shop suggested that he pay for the more expensive oil. Your "millionaire" friend probably gets an ego boost out of it. Most millionaires I know do not like to spend their money. It is one of the keys to how they got where they are today.
