i did some investigation into this and could not find any batteries that fit. it's kinda tough because the "button" that you push to turn on the light is a cap that fits directly onto the battery. getting two small ones in there would be tough... but i guess if you glued them together it could work.

anyone know a part number on a battery small enough that 2 will fit?

and i always hear people saying "fob"... usually about the little remotes for car alarms. but sometimes it's all capitals. is this just a stupid word someone made up or is it an acronym? and is there a definition of this term more precise than "a little thing with buttons that goes on your keychain"?

From dictionary.com:
1: a pocket in a man's vest to hold a pocket watch [syn: watch pocket] 2: an adornment that hangs from a watch chain 3: short chain or ribbon attaching a pocket watch to a man's vest

I guess #2 kinda fits...

nothing related appears on acronymfinder.com

Hey Jones -
Yeah, I can put pointers in there. And while I'm at it, I'll put together some flashing blue ones for all the Porsche drivers who drop X and go to raves.

i did this to my key about a week ago. i got one of those rave light keychains and gutted it. my bulb stopped working because the little copper strip inside would bend and bend and eventually not touch the battery. anyho, the rave light had a led with the two batteries sandwiched between the two leads. i did some creative bending, and shaving with my dremel to get them to fit. as for the thickness, i shaved the button down to fit. the problem i ran into was that i shaved too much off because i was being stupid and not paying attention. thus, the little ridge that holds the botton in the head went away. so i cut a small piece of cardboard and glued it to the button. works great, and i can signal airplanes now with my car key the little light cost me four bucks and came with batteries, so i was happy about the deal. pretty easy if you dont mind taking a dremel to your key!

take care
brian

Now how about this for a challenge. A key fob with both a high-intensity flashlight AND a laser-pointer?

Make that a _green_ laser pointer, and I'm in!

Would you guys really go raving driving your Porsche after dropping X. I would never risk driving my Porsche after a rave- take the gf or buddy's car, so if something f's up, its not your baby. And if you don;t drive to a rave why would you bring your P-car keys and risk getting them lost... No need for rave light in my Key. maybe just a stronger light.

If you are trying to find a regular replacement battery- I found one at Radio Shack for ~$2...

Even better- Walmart has an assortment of keyrings/fobs/whatever the fu** One of them is a key-light- it actually locks the bottom end of the key into it- you shove your key down into it and it clamps it in, so you have a larger piece to grab the key with, etc- it's not a whole lot larger... It's probably made more for house-key-type keys, etc. They're black & triangular shaped- I bought one for replacement parts ~2yrs ago- they still had them up until ~1yr ago at least. The bulb, battery, and plastic push button piece are all interchangable. Brian would be able to use this the plastic push button is the exact same size, only w/a textured finish. The copper strip is a lot longer too- you could cut a piece from it to replace the Porsche one. Anyway, the writing on the back of the battery I have here is:

VARTA
V625U
+
Made In Germany

I'm sure the important #'s are V625U, but... I think this is a Porsche battery- not the Radio shack OR the Walmart one, although it's w/the Walmart one right now...

I'm really interested in these LED's myself

WHAT !*#%@!!! You're using a non-Porsche battery in your key? Don't you know aftermarket ones are cheap imitations and won't work as well?

yeah, i bought a few of these from rat shack. they had to special order them, though, so i ended up paying a bit more. problem is that is a 1.5V cell and i can't find any led's that run off such a low voltage. i searched varta's web page and a few others and have not been able to find a 3V cell that will fit the "cap" that forms the button on the key.
