The Bell M2 seems to be the most popular helmet among DE folks around here, I see lots of them at the tracks. It's what I have used for the past 5 yrs (Christmas gift too), and I've been happy with it. Full face helmet, large eye port, reasonable price. If I remember correctly, mine came from Racer's Wholesale. The first one was too small, sent it back and got one that fits really well.

<img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" /> was pretty good. As birthdays go this was a good one.
Helmet fit actually ends up being a very subjective thing. People have different shaped heads and different helmet manufacturers make differently shaped helmets.
So the advice to try them on is very appropriate.
I've got a Simpson LX Plus that I'm fond of. It also comes in black which I should have bought instead of the usual white.
I don't have a neck brace yet but I've been meaning to get one for some time. It's not a bad idea from a safety standpoint and it will hopefully relieve the sore neck I've been getting at DE's.

I have had the voyager for about 3 yrs and am very happy with it. it is not the lightest helmet around, but its not bad......can't remember how it was compared to the Bell weight-wise, but the simpson fit my face (nose and chin clearance, esp) much better. Nice big eye holes, plenty of rooms for glasses under it, and stays relatively cool (for a non-vented helmet) as long as you slightly crack open the visor.
I bought one of the sparco anatomic (has the hump in the back) neck rings. I found it VERY helpfull in supporting my helmet, and that when I would go out without the ring (riding in someone else's car at the track where we were going 7/10th as an example I wouldn't always wear the ring) I found my neck got much more tired. The sparco ring basically acted as a support for the helmet and really cut down on fatigue from lateral motion. Plus I have a friend who was in a bad WorldSport crash, in a coma for a few days, and his MD said he would have been dead if it weren't for the little bit extra support the collar gave him. Its not effective like a HANS device, but it may limit helmet travel a bit in a crash. The down side is the collar does restrict your range of motion in the neck with th helmet on...makes parallel parking a bitch
