Default No start, Whirring noise..

so i've had my car started for about a month now, been running great too! today i was going out to change the 2 yr. old oil, so i could drive it to the inpection place, and the darn thing doesn't start! all i get is this whirring noise :/. i'm pretty sure it has to do with spark because the gas is coming straight out the back... the belts are good, mechanically everythings ok... any tips for troubleshooting? i need it up by wednesday.

Is it just whirring or is the engine actually turning over? If it's just whirring, you might have broken all the teeth off of your starter, or the solenoid could be shot and the starter isn't engaging the flywheel at all.

If it's not the starter, another more unpleasant possibility is a broken timing belt. Is it cranking over fast (like there's no compression) that's making the whirring sound, or not turning over? I don't see how gas could be coming out the exhaust if it's not turning over.

BTW the timing belt can still look good through the inspection hole if teeth are stripped, you should remove the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is turning.

i think if gas fumes are coming out the back as he says, the engine has to be turning over...pistons are moving.

check grounds? check the spark plugs to see if they actually spark.

pull the injector harnesses, unscrew one of the spark plugs and reattach the plug wire. hold the spark plug up to the body (not with yer bare hands) and have a friend crank it. see if it sparks.

it was the battery.. DOH! that battery has been to hell and back, there just was a weak voltage coming out. i put the real car battery back in, starts right up. i was using an ATV battery for while i was working on it... guess it drained too many times.
