Motor Mounts - Part Deux

Motor Mounts - Part Deux
Well, this weekend I completed yet another removal/installation of motor mounts on my S2. Last year I replaced my motor mounts with "after market german manufactured mounts" at half the cost. They didn't even last HALF as long as Porsche says they are supposed to. I closely examined the removed mounts and the passenger side had completely failed. Now keep in mind, I have driving my car with this vibration for at least 5 months so those after-market mounts only lasted about 7 months of mostly highway miles.
The silver lining to this little cloud of wasted money is that I am getting really good at doing engine mounts. This is my third time (soon to be fourth) replacing mounts as I helped TomH do his mounts last fall. We are going to replace his mounts soon also as he used after-market mounts and his have failed again.
I can't say enough about not having all that vibration. I was really not liking my car. I feel like I should be doing a OMG, OMG, OMG, I love car thing, a la "Craig".
I forgot how smooth my car could be. I also replaced the "orignal" O2 sensor with the new univeral from Paragon. That was quick and easy. God, I am going to miss having access to a lift when I leave Annapolis. I did the engine mounts is about 3 hours all the while feeling like crap from drinking a little too much at a dinner party the night before. ***Don't worry TomH, I checked the torque settings twice***(inside joke) <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />
Now, I am just waiting for the idiots at Valley Motors Porsche to send me my parts (that I ordered 3 weeks ago). They are retarded. One of the worst Porsche dealerships I have ever dealt with. I was spoiled by Brumos.
So, I would very strongly recommend against using after-market mounts. Especially if you are paying to have the mounts replaced. $$$$

Oh my G-d, I just did mine on Friday night with the aftermarket mounts
...and boy what a pain in the ***. It would have taken about 4 hours (first time doing this job) except my fiance put me on the phone with a friend of mine from Florida, which wasted about 30 minutes, and then I had to grind off part of the passenger side mount so I could get the bolt to thread out. Suck!!! I think it took 5.5 hours.
Then, to make matters worse, when I was torquing down the upper mounting bolts (8x40) on the drivers side, the torque wrench never clicked (crappy Craftsman torque wrench). So, as I start to get a sick feeling that the bolt was stretching, it broke. Luckily I could support the motor and pull off the engine support bracket from the top to get the bolt stub out of the mount. Maybe 30 minutes.
