Post Removing Club Sport body decals

Should I do it? Is the paint under the transfer likely to be less faded than on the rest of the bodywork????

Help!!!!! <img src="graemlins/oops.gif" border="0" alt="[oops]" />

If you do decide to remove them, you might try a clothes iron (the "wool" setting seems to work well) with a cotton cloth between the decal and the iron. Hold it on for 30-60 sec. The heat will soften the glue nicely.

Dunno about the paint though. Depends on what kind of shape the rest of the paint is in.

Steve,

I am guessing that you are refering to a 968 CS, with the "Club Sport" decals down the sides. I like them since they are factory and would recommend keeping them(Although I also like Plymouth Superbirds with the 6-foot wing, obnoxious paint schemes, and huge "Plymouth" decals down the quarters). In the end I guess it is a matter of personal opinion--although there is a possibility that the paint underneath has weathered differently, and you may have a ghost outline. I am just jealous that you own such a fine car .

Why would you want to remove them?!? First of all, they're factory, secondly, they're very cool looking. I was actually throwing around the idea of putting some on my 924S as a conversation piece and also to scare away Mustangs and Camaros.

A word of advice if you do choose to take them off anyway: my car had a tape pinstripe around it when I bought it which really turned my stomach. I took it off (with a hair dryer on hot setting and my fingernails) and now the car has a bright red pinstripe ghost against the slightly faded body colour. This on a car with recent paint which doesn't look even remotely faded anywhere else. In your case, the ghost image would be huge!

PS: If they come off in one piece, send them my way!

Thanks guys for your opinions and advice. I don't quite own the 968CS yet but have agreed a price for a supposedly excellent car and am going to see it on Saturday. In the UK the decals are thought by some to be a bit loud and therefore uncool. I have to say that my preference would be to remove them if only not to attract the attention of the Old Bill. However, I was concerned about "ghosting" and as such I think I will leave well alone.

Thanks again.

To be honest with you, I dont see how anything about a 968CS could be considered remotely "uncool".

There arent that many of them, they are "dead sexy", and if kept stock will only gain in collectability.

I just wish I had one, I would hug it, and squeeze it, and call it George.
