Question The sound of escaping air.

I haven't gotten to check into this problem in depth yet, because it just started, but I thought I'd post it in case any body had any quick ideas as to what it is.
In my '86 951, I just started losing my boost as it winds up past 4000RPM and then hearing a very distinct sound of compressed escaping air (the way an airhose would sound when sudden pressure was released.) Blow off valve or something?
Just wondered if anyone has had a similar situation, or knew of what might be a likely culprit.
I am always lurking and learn so much from you guys, what a resource! I love these cars, but I am not very proficient in the ways of the Turbo.

Maybe you have a tear/hole on one of your "pressurized" intake hoses. On my 951 I have only just started making boost at 4000rpm. It's possible that as the intake starts getting pressurized, the tear/hole opens up and "pshhhh" out with the hp!

Then again it could be much simpler - have you checked that all of your hose clamps are tight?

As far as it being your BOV, you have 3 hose clamps to check there too! If they appear tight, pull off the BOV, and see how the membrane looks with a flashlight. They tear all the time. It would be a good excuse to upgrade your BOV - my Forge BOV arrives tomorrow!

Good luck - HTH!

What you need to do is open your hood and have a friend listen for leaks as you accelerate up through the gears. A long straight road that isn't too busy and some nylon straps will be handy for this one.

I assume the nylon straps are for tying your listening friend to the engine compartment. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The nylon straps keep the hood from being ripped off its hinges at speed.
