Post Have you seen the Ding King? (photo)

A few months ago someone anonymously whacked my 944 fender in a parking lot. The damage was cosmetic - there was a 2 or 3 inch crease in the metal of the front fender.

I took the car to a paintless dent removal place and they told me that it would need bodywork.

The other day I saw this $20 device called the "Ding King" which claimed to remove dings & dents from cars. Last night I tried using it. Much to my surprise, the results have been good!

The crease is obviously not gone, but it looks a helluva lot better than it did originally. Here's a photo, but I'm not even sure that this photo does it justice.

And this is after about a dozen 'treatments' with the Ding King. I intend to work on it some more this weekend, and see what happens. The car may still require bodywork to be *perfect* but this will have made the dent much easier to tolerate until that time.

Ouch!!!

Is that the thing with the 3 suction cups that is advertised on tv?

Looks like it did a pretty good job for 20 bucks.

Here's how it works. The kit comes with some glue, a glue gun, mounting brackets, and some glue removal solvent. You use the glue gun to heat the glue and apply to one of the bracket attachments. You stick this hot glue & attachment on the car dent and let it cool. Then you attach the bridge and wingnut thingy and start slowly twisting it outward, which pulls out the dent. It will finally "POP!" loose, and then you use the solvent to get rid of the glue.

I have had some problems with glue residue remaining on the car.

It took at least a dozen treatments to get these results. The crease came out a little bit at a time. I certainly did not expect it to come out 100% (already been told by a professional that would not be possible). However, I was very impressed by the results. Basically it turned a nasty looking deep crease into something that resembles more of a scuff. Most casual observers would not notice, or at the very least would find the damage minor.

Eventually the fender will still require bodywork to look factory new. It is not perfect, but the improvement was well worth 20 bucks. I'll post some more photos in a while.

My kids love the ding king commerical on TV. They always say I should get one for my car.
I wish Billie Mays would stop yelling on his commercials, I might give him more that .0001 seconds he gets now before I hit the channel button.

Haven't tried that one but my DAD has used Dent Wizard...they've done a hell of a job on his Mercedes, on more than one occasion. They actually heat the metal. I don't know all of the detail on the procedure. But they have taken out some sizeable dents on his car, and he's as picky as they come.

Don't use the damn thing on your hood, you'll be sorry you did! Other than that works fine, on usa cars.

Hey, that looks pretty good! Now all you have to do is remove the fender liner and tap on that dent from the inside with a small hammer (against block of wood on outside) and that final crease will be gone!

I have a Ding King, but haven't used it yet. Funny thing about mine: one of the outside "posts" is not attached to the bridge. Is this how it's designed, or is mine damaged?

Thanks,
-Zoltan.

Here's a photo of how the thing works.

Z-man, I think you can just attach the posts to the bridge yourself.

My kit just came with one length of bridge. You may be able to get extra stuff for bigger dents.

My girlfriend's Dad (who can fix anything) found that the Ding King seems to work best when you use just a little of the glue stuff. Apply a thin dab to the middle of the post and then push into the dent HARD to make certain the attachment is firm and the glue is adhering to the dent itself. Then after the glue cools, just slowly twist the wingnut until it pops off.

And don't expect perfect results on the first attempt. It's a process; you remove a little of the dent at a time. The results here were obtained after at least a dozen applications (and it takes about 10 minutes per application). We started on the outside and worked our way towards the worst parts of the crease.
