Post Considering selling the 951. Opinions?

I'd like to guage interest and potential value. Please share opinions and insights as to what I should/could ask....

1988 951 non S: 135k Black on Linen. Most records since 1990, all since 2001. Exterior is 7 or 8 (some stone chips) an interior is 7 (wear on driver seat with some cracks in leather and hatch carpet is worn. Car was painted about 5 years by Porsche specialist.

Repairs and preventative maint since 2001: PS rack, pump, lines, and reservoir; new belts 2500 miles ago; front end seal; waterpump; coolant hoses with flush); A/C copressor with recharge (recharge in 4/03); brake pads last month (Mintez street/performance). Compreesion check and leak down performed with all #s within specs (head never off).

Modifications: Autothority MAF with chips, LBE (as delivered setting), Koni yellow shock, H&R 22lb springs, SFR short shift, Momo shift ****, test pipe, Autometer Ultra-lite boost and AFR in Lo-tek pod Pioneer Premiere CD head unit with 4x6" in doors and 6x9" in hatch storage wells (sounds good for no sub).

Car makes 242 rwhp and 276rwtq (have dyno sheet but no A/F ratio).

Pictures are available in my signature and more can be sent upon request.

I don't hink I can take less than $10k.

Thank you,
Daniel

This is what I don't understand. Alot of people base their car price on the modifications done to it, but don't they have to consider the buying market is only interested in the market value, not yours.

For example, I'm selling my bike considering the current market value of the bike in the area. If I tried to get it for all the extras than I'd look like a total idiot.

I'm not basing the price on the modifications done. Everything is listed for information about the car.

I wanted to list as much info as possible to answer most questions up front. Eventually, someone will ask, "What mods have been done?"; "What's been replaced?", etc.

I'm smart enough to know that I could never ask to recoup the investment but someone may consider an advantage to have a boost gauge, etc....

Dan, I think $10k would be about the max for a reasonably quick sale (1~2 months vs 9~12 months). You might be able to get $11k if you wait for the right buyer to come along. A perfect, unadulterated car with your mileage might fetch $11.5k ~ but with the mods and slightly lower condition I doubt you'll find a buyer for that much.

I could be wrong though ~ but then again I would have heard more about mine if that were true. :shrugs: Hopefully you can do better than what I think ~ I'd be glad for you if you did.

Thanks Brian.

I'm not ready to put it on the market just yet. I'm playing the Hypothetical Game....

Are you going to buy something else if you do sell?

I put mine on for 10.5, got nibbles, lowered it to 10, got more nibbles, decided to keep it, still got nibbles. I think you're in the right ballpark.

I'm keeping mine...

The dealer I bought my car from moves 944's through at a regular pace. He's sold 86-87 turbos in slightly better condition (and stock) for 11-15k, and NA's for as much as 9k. If you wanted to wait for the right buyer, I'm sure you could get that price.

I paid $8k 3 months ago for my '87 with 92k miles on the clock. The car is beautiful and has HR chips, test pipe, down pipe, 3" SS exhaust, LBE and 17" Boxster wheels. But then again, I got a really good deal. Just be patient and hold your ground, you'll get what you want for it eventually.

And eventually, you'll be in the market for another one...

About a year ago, one of the Probes we built (1993 Probe GT) sold for just under $16,000.00, while the market was bearing $3,000.00 - $4,500.00 for a stock/factory one of that year.

how does that old saying go: "there is an *** for every seat". That's right, personally for a car with a poor exterior and poor interior like your descriptions states about your car, I would not even touch it for above $5k but I am sure that someone will think otherwise, the price, like everyhting else is based on supply and demand, how many people are looking for 44s and how many nicer ones are out there for less than what you are asking, there are some people who prefer a car that is mechanically sound rather than cosmetically perfect so you just have to find the right buyer.

I wouldn't use 'poor' do describe the exterior or interior. I used 7 on a 10 scale. That's above poor.

You are right about it being mechanically sound. It just needs some TLC.

Streckfu, is the dash trim brushed aluminum or painted?
