Post HELP - Rough Starting, won't stay running.

***** Background. Car was running fine prior to change of intake valve seat on #1. Oil was being shot out my exhaust (oil smell, hesitation, that led me to investigate). Everything put back together and now this?????

OK here are the symptoms.

1. If I just turn the key.... she starts.... and sputters out immediately...

2. If I turn the key.... she starts.... I give it gas....if I rev it past 2-3k she revs nice and clean.....but it is hard keeping her at that. She surges and lopes all over......but at high revs NO misses, pops, or sputters..... If I let the gas go completely.....she will rev down under 2-3k and sputter, backfire, misfire, pop, blurb, and finally stall out.

The only way she runs is with me massaging the gas and keeping it over 2-3k but even then she surges when I touch the gas.

Thanks for your help!!!!!

The AFM is plugged properly, but it crossed my mind to test this first. All the other sensors and vacuum hoses are routed and plugged in.
ANy quick testing procedures for the AFM? THanks.

Check that the idle stabilizer valve is plugged in. Sounds about right for that.

With the AFM it would stat and die immediately regardless of throttle.
