83 944- ecu/O2 swap questions...
I am reviving a 1983 944. I completed the front seals, belts, H2O pump, etc. I installed a new O2 sensor, one wire, but the factory connector was mangled beyond use. I need a suggestion on the proper way to butt splice or replace the connector. I also had to swap out ecus. I "think" I have a late 944 ecu, the housing is different than the early box, is this correct? The car idles poor, runnis rich but does run and accelerate under load? Any suggestions would be great...

Look for vacume leaks, and check that your AFM is working correctly - you might want to open it up and clean the traces on it.
The o2 sensor doesn't have much control over the mixture, it's just a fine tuning to help meet emissions. The mixture is based on engine speed and airflow. It's imperitive that the AFM works correctly and measures all of the air going into the engine.
Early cars won't work with a late DME. Early cars can use the BOSCH ML1.1 or ML1.2 versions, later cars used ML3.1
