Default 968 turbo conversion

Hi All,
been a while since I was here. I am in the process of converting a 968 NA into turbo. I am using assorted 944 parts and a turbo of my own design.

Turbo specs:
T4Oe compressor 3"in/2"out .60 A/R
oil/h2o cartridge garrett style
T3 84 trim .82 A/R turbine 2.5" 4 bolt outlet

2.5" piping, 944 crossover pipe, Haltech control, Block heading to HMR soon for bore/hone, studs, rods, Mahle ferrocoated pistons. Bar and plate FMIC 2.5 in/out, Turboconcepts 38mm wastegate, 944 intake mated to 968, other 944 parts such as heat shields, downpipe, oil lines, going to Lindsey racing 3" exhaust.

Will dyno for variocam on/off benefits...

Power to 6 speed transaxle via S2 flywheel(16lbs w/60-2 teeth for haltech) and centerforce PP/disc, and then to S2 driveshaft.

Suspension: 968 stock torsion rods, yellows, Zimmerman rotors, Porterfield R4S pads.

Interior: all new carpet (german velour), leather coming

Any tips, suggestions, anyone interested??

Thanks

Yep, it will be interesting. I did a long thread with all the build tips over on 968forums called "968 turbo conversion: project in the works) Somehow I lost my access for three days so I gave up.

I was going nuts, I have a need to share this info...

Almost looks like Park City, Utah.

Where are you located?

I don;t know who makes them but they very solid. I hit a few big michigan holes and no bent rims. these are 18s w/ 275 rear and 255 front. Offset is right on. Fronts wander a little in the grooved roads. flat roads ..real nice. Yoko's on the rims but I don't feel like they grip real well. will get Michi Pilot sports next time.

Hey, welcome! So the project is really coming along, eh? Cool! So it's a 16v turbo with variocam? How are you controlling the variocam?

Hey Smokie!! I must have got booted from 968forums...can;t post anymore and no reply in a week!

Frporscheman: Have not decided exactly. Haltech has a few spare outputs (beyond what is needed to run engine)which can control anything(COP??) via relay. Since it turns on and then off when rev up 1000-7000 rpm, and reverse when rev down, I may have to configure two relays via two output channels timed to RPM(since I think Haltech channels are either on or off position)

It will take dyno time to get best result. Plan to use Deutche Nine vari sproket for fine tuning.

ADMINISTRATION: sorry if I started this in the wrong spot. If you can move it to 968 specific forum, I won't mind.

Giant Viper: I lived in Yonkers and Madison for years. Miss the Jersey Girls and freekin Italian food!!

Back to project: Have been speaking with several turbo builders. Looks like my compressor side is good to go. and my stage three turbine wheel and cartridge are also good. Here is the problem. I can't find a four bolt stage three T3 turbine housing to fit the wheel, and I am trying to avoid machine costs. turbo cost me 600$ so far, and that is just the rebuild and new compressor. a few bucks more and I could have moved to the newer GT series.

Anyway, trying to keep the 4 bolt outflow so I don;t have to mess with the Porsche downpipe (which I think is a really well made thick walled unit...how many of these have you seen cracked??)

Some turbo builders say I should go with the .82 A/R turbine housing instead of the .63A/R. If I could find one, i think I would get it. Benefits are more overall horsepower, but less down low. Also, less high end flow restriction means less heat in turbo and longer life. Sacrifice(like with all turbo builds, there are plus/minus deals to be made) is the low end power by as much as 1000 rpm. It is hard to do this all from the desktop. That is why I am trying to stay as cheap as possible on the turbo build to see where my build stands, and for basic tuning, before moving on to a more expensive turbo.

this turbo will be easily good for 400+hp (where i want to be). not something crazy like 600. just not useable on the street.

Saw a nice hood vent for intercooler from D-9. Time to go for a ride.
