Post 55/60 watt Range Power Bulbs

I need to order some H4 55/60 watt Narva Range Power 30% extra light output bulbs for a Rennlister as I am out of stock and he needs them before Memorial Day. So if anyone else would like some for spares, etc., let me know and I will include your order. They will be $10 each, plus $3.50 shipping for any quantity. (I also have plenty of 90/100 watt H4s for the same price and 100 watt H3s for $5 each.)

If interested, drop me an e-mail at the address in my profile. I will be placing the order at close of business tomorrow. Thanks.

Ice, I just put some Sylvania "Cool Blue" Halogens in my cruise that run 55/60. Think you that I should gussy the thing up with a relay or 2, or will the stock wiring handle it?

Thanks

Thaddeus

Sorry for straying from the topic, but do you know much about the Hella +30 H4 bulbs?

Iceshark I sent you an e-mail but read somewhere that you've had trouble with it so i'll repeat it here. I'm looking for the alternator rebuild kit and am trying to decide between hella H4's or your kit, if it's still available. A question about your harness/relay kit, do you have to cut the original headlamp connectors?

Thad, your stock wiring will probably not deliver full voltage even with 55/60. So, while it is not necessary to add relays, you would probably see a fair amount of light output increase if you did. Take a voltage measurement at the bulb legs while they are burning and I can tell you the expected increase in output from a rewire/relays.

BTW, you should have gotten the clear +30 bulbs as that blue coating knocks out a fair amount of light output .... it is a filter, plain and simple and they only came out with that particular one for marketing reasons. Live and learn.

PorscheG96, a little but only what I have been told and seen 2 examples of. Apparently, Hella stopped making their own H4s and are outsourcing them from Asia. So quality is a real big issue from a light output, life, filament tolerance and gas mix standpoint. If you are going to get +30s, make them Phillips/Narva's or Osram/Sylvania's. The quality on those are first rate and usually made in Germany. It makes a difference. And get clear, not a colored envelope.

Type_LT, I got your e-mail this morning and sent you a reply, but you are right: my e-mail is pure crap.

There are some threads on how we went about deciding on selecting the Cibies because I feel they are superior to the standard Hella E-Code lenses and a push with the Hella Super E-Code, which is rather rare in North America. Danno just did a link to some of the old threads in the "Upgrade" thread. I don't know how to link it in here but it is on page 2 right now.

I have the adjustable voltage regulator with brushes available and explained it in my return e-mail to you. I am making another run of the headlight wiring kit, and may be about 1/2 filled on that so let me know if you want in. Should have that run done after all the parts come in next week.

If there is enough interest I may make a third run but that will be awhile off since I will need to make some minimum parts purchases (so participation level) and I'm totally out of lenses after this run is done. So need to wait a month or so for a new batch to show up from Europe.

The wiring kit is plug and play and does not require any cutting of the OEM wiring harness.

Thanks for the tip, Ice. Damn! Filters... what silliness.

Well, they're brighter than the ones that were in there.. got 'em for 16.00 the pair on sale, so no big deal I guess.

Guess I'll find a relay and up it a bit more..
cheers

Thaddeus

Ram, I will put you down for a pair and ship, you know where to send the $23.50 check.

Thad, you could buy a set of these and compare. If you put out some test receptors you will see even better. I would sort of hate to sell to you as you would be the first MN boy and I will have to start keeping sales tax records of those sales. <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

Ram, no prob. Go out next week when I get them.

You might want to look at Strayer's post on the lighting wiring. Makes a huge (3.4 power) difference even if you are running 55 watt.

-Another insight into the Porsche design process--

Hans: "Tjouldn't we put beefier viring in den, Frans? Dey not going to be gettin the proper illumination wid dese bulbs, jah?"
Frans: "Nein, nein, ach du crap Hans! Adding of weight is not vat ve want here. Veight makes de car go slow. Dese bulbs, dese vires, dey are enuff, jah?"
Hans: "Jah, de weight... but how are dey to be stoppin in time, if they can't see Frans?"
Frans: "Jah, a point you are haffing... how bout we improve the braking unt leef de headlights alone so dey are stopping in time, jah?"
Hans: "Jah?"
Frans: "Jah!"
Hnas: "Yah!"

Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking when they designed the wiring. It is the crappiest I have ever seen and I owned some pretty crummy cars in my younger days, including cars wired by Lucas, a.k.a. "Prince of Darkness".
