which makes a better track car...?
in my area there are plenty of autocrossing events. in fact there is going to be a local autocross may 17/18.
anyway here is my question.
1990 N/A RX-7 or 1984 944 N/A---which makes a better autocross car?
thanks for your input

Tough call, since that generation of RX7 was made to go head to head with the 944. According the SCCA stock classes, the RX7 runs in E Stock, as does the 944 n/a's.
The RX7 is probably a little lighter, but has a little less HP. Not sure if it is as balanced as the 944 n/a.
Given that a 1990 RX7 is 6 years younger than a 1984 944, I'd say the suspension technology in the RX7 is probably a little more advanced, giving it a slight edge over the 944.
For track use, I'd say the 944 is far better, due to the fragility of the RX7's rotary engine. (Personal opinion here: no need to flame!)
Do you have both of these cars, or are you looking to purchase one?
Just my $0.42.

thanks for your input.
i guess it depends specifically on what year compared. Although all 2nd generation RX-7s are pretty similar, they are divided up into two different series.
86-88 is a series 4 car, and 89-91 is a series 5. the series 4 second gen has 146 HP and weighs about the same as a 944 coupe, however the series 5 2nd gen RX-7 has 160 HP. i will not compare the turbo RX-7 to the 951 though.
that being said i guess it depends on which series of the second gen is being used for comparison. I own a 1990 RX-7 (160 HP) and it weighs about 2,800 pounds. I just bought a 1984 944 coupe (2650 pounds).
anyway i guess i choose the 944 as a better autocrosser.
