I didnt want an S2 either, and I didnt want red either. i just wanted the cleanest low mileage 944 i could find. i found my after a short search, paid more than i budgeted for, and maybe a little more that it was worth the car and dont regret the purchase.

I wont buy a smokers car, a car that had any more than a fender painted (and matched perfectly) or a car that need any work off the bat. I'm just a lazy F! that waits around for the right deal.

Like i tell my wife you dont have a choice of color when buying a used car.

PLEASE GUYS DONT TURN THIS POST INTO A PISSIN CONTEST BETWEEN THE S2 AND THE 951!!

I guess I should have added this on my previous post.
I bought my '91 S2 for 6K about 3 months ago. It had at the time about 160K miles. And no service history. So if the cam and chain and all the other fun stuff has been done professionaly 7K might not be that far off. But it sure wouldn't hurt to start even lower then 7. I would.

Thanks for the input guys, I think i'll be able to pick up the car for 6900 or so when all is said and done.

I'm seriously considering it, maybe I'll just keep her stock and wait for a 951 to purchase as well.

A dealer never gave anyone a deal because they felt bad for the buyer. Dealers only feel bad for themselves. If he's giving you a deal it's because he doesn't think he can sell the car for more. Offer him less, and don't be reluctant to walk away. Let him know you're looking at other cars, and the price will probably come down.

Anyhow, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Ever see Glengarry Glen Ross?

Ian I'm not sure what engine goodies you had on your 951 but you'd better drive the S2 to decide for yourself...just remember that what you see is what you get, there isn't room for easy horsepower gain with that car. Since buying my 968 over a year ago I've had SO MANY second thoughts, I keep trying to justify why I didn't buy a Turbo! I've test driven two chipped 89 Turbos since picking up the 968 and with the shorter gearing of the 6 speed it feels just as fast as those 951's [S2 also has shorter gearing than the 951]. But when I'm on the freeway and I hear a 951 spool up next to me and he's gone while I'm sitting there at WOT without a chance, I'm left reconsidering my position...

On EDIT: What I say is assuming the 968 and S2 are VERY similar.

I would agree with you about dealers for the most part, but Larry and I talk all often and he has done favors for me, buying parts a whole sale for the 951 for one and I do think he is giving it to me at cost as a favor.

Yep, there are good guys out there in the car dealership world. I actually want to open up my own shop some day and I will try to run in the same way. I too hope to be independtly wealthy at the time so that will help.....
