Knocking...rod bearing ? hope not

but would exhaust make a knocking? id think that it would be more of a popping sound if it were an exhaust leak?

well it could be exhaust hanger is broken. whenever u move the pipe might bang against metal.

I've checked, and will check again next time the car is lifted. But i still dont see how that would explain the noise occuring mainly with a cold motor.
