Someone that livs across the street where I work has a Silver Cooper S. It is a gorgeous car. I have stopped by to talk to them about it, but cannot get an answer. He also has a Viper and a new Vette. I assume he knows cars.
The 337 is here, but most were ordered months ago. I am sure a handful might be found. If I were a betting man, VWoA will bring the R32 here, in a de-tuned (via chips) form.
Don't knock the GTI. A set of chips makes them a very quick car. Add some shocks, struts, springs, and good shoes on it, and a stock 951 will be put to shame. Do the same to a 951 and you have him.

tabor, does that r32 (or whatever) golf use components from the Audi A3/S3 ? it looks like they could have a shoe-in using the technology.. HOW COME WE NEVER GET THAT STUFF ? gosh-darn-it.

There are rumors that VAG will bring the A3 in soon to compete with BMW's supercompact (Mini, etc). The golf and the A3 are more-or-less the same car. However, the A3 is supposed to be built to a higher standard; both fit and finish, AND durrability.

I have read a couple of different reports on the S3 and the final word was the same. The S3 may be the best car that Audi is producing today (including the other S-models). I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they get into the states.

ok i spoke too soon. i haven't seen a lot of these things in the WRC, or have i not seen enough WRC to properly comment?
<a href="http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=365667" target="_blank">another rumormill? A3/S3 coming to N.A.</a>
Old :
New :
but still, i must insist. i HIGHLY dig BMW, quality, performance, etc.. BUT i also love a good fast 4wd car that is extremely tunable. the S3 (which is a turbo quattro) *must* have the better tuning value in the power ratio $ + Hp=fun + speed, because of the turbo aspect. is that right? anyone care to help me with the math?

Ah yes, the new Mini...
Brings back memories of my youth and learning to drive in an "old Mini" in the old country. It wasn't a mini cooper, just a plain a green Austin Mini.
On one memorable occasion I was tootling along at 30 MPH with the "L" plates on the car when lo and behold the front left wheel collapsed! - the steel hub just separated at the rim. Yikes, what junk!

The new Mini is tight. I got a chance to drive an NA a while back it was just tight. It wasn't particularly fast, but it did everything it was supposed to the way it's supposed to. That's kind of a strange saying...For instance, my 944 ain't too quick, but it does everything the way it's supposed to. My friend's WRX is plenty fast, but it just feels all wrong. No offense, UDP, I mention it because I know someone else here has experience with both cars. Cooper S's do 0-60 in about 6 I'm told, and the NA's do it in about 8...A lot like us 944s, actually. I wish it wasn't FWD, but what can you do? If there's an outcry...
I'm not a big fan of the GTIs since the Golf IIIs came out...They kinda resemble short wagons more than hatchbacks. The Minis and the A3 (S3 anyone?) make me drool.

I've got money down on a Cooper S, It's the light blue like in the pics above. The Columbus Ohio dealer tells me maybe September. I've got 2 sets of rims coming with it, the white 16's for street and the 17" for track. I look forward to taking it on Mid-Ohio, I think my wife will do her first Drivers Ed in it. I may need to sell the old mopar to make room in the garage for it. I've always liked the old Mini's, and the new one built by BMW just HAS to be right. I've driven the n/a, and with more power feels like it will be a blast. I've always felt the smaller the car, the more fun to drive. Even the old Renault R5 was fun to zoom around in, although it was crap. As a daily driver (that fits my 6'5" just fine) I'm really looking forward to it.

The one thing about the mini that really bugs me are those goofy plastic pipes on the inside of the doors? What's with those? The ultimate in styling BS...right up there with fake hood scoops and coffee can exhaust pipes.
I bet the aluminum paint wears off in a few years.

0-60, is about 7.4 according to the factory, one other thing I found surprising is the weight distribution, about 63% up front! how do they manage to make this a "neutral" handling car ?

You getting yours from Midwestern Auto Group? I had them put me on their "Mini list" when I was shopping for a new car but I never heard back. I want to get up there sometime and look at their entire inventory of foreign makes. Impressive.
