check this out. got bored on ebay so this is what i found
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...1%7C240%3A1308
also feeler on this. 1987 porsche 944 n/a, around 135k(estimate), new gt racing headlight conversion, black on black, sunroof(working), 5spd, never tracked(to my knowledge), never abused, clutch done in December 07 and trans in March 08.
only issue's roof paint is starting to fade and the front valence has taken some rock chips and looks ok, but up close(real close) it could use a repaint. just wanna know what you guys would pay for it.

i dont think it'll go for much. callaway really isn't known for anything but vettes and 16cyl concepts, i've never heard of a callaway 944, nor a 1983 turbo. i'm sure it's not hard to fake it. the seller states the only remaining part from the callaway was a boost gauge, which i'm sure can be purchased from callaway for any turbo/ supercharged vehicle. he'd have to show vin tracing and such. a lot of paperwork(original) to get a nice chunk of change.
i only clicked on it cause of the headlights, i wanted to see if they were flush or not. mine are as flush as i can get em, the molding on the conversion was horrible, which i'll have pics of 2morrow

There were several - I have a friend in the Hudson Champlain Porsche Club that has an original Calaway 944. I'll see if I can dig up a picture.
They all had a little badge (maybe 2 - one in the engine bay and one on the rear).
I agree - I bet is isn't going to go for much money... I meant it as someone will get a pretty good deal, if the car's built as well as he says.

i'd love to see a picture of one, as original as possible.
the same way he makes more power out of a vette, tuning, and some severe knowledge and engineers that are paid really well and know what they're doing.
probably higher hp parts, more turbo pressure, better intake and exhaust, different engine mapping.
anybody on the second part of my original post?

if I found an '87 NA that I really wanted to drive, even if it was a little rough around the edges, I might see paying $3500...
There's a white NA with an auto, looks nice in pictures, has some engine issue. Asking price is $1700...
Is it hard to "5-speed your auto"? I have a spare (well a few actually) transmissions in my basement. I assume you need a bell housing, torque tube, clutch pedal, probably a flywheel, slave and master cylinders, shift rod, shift boot, center console, and misc hardware...

In my area, which is usually higher than most of the county, and depending on when the Timing belts and such were last done, I bet it would go for $4500. I paid $5000 for my 136,000 mile (at the time) NA

I live in the Nashville area and never have seen that car. Wonder where he has been hiding it? If someone wants me to go and look for them, just let me know. I've got a good friend that is the 944 mechanic for the area, maybe he'll join me on the visit.

Callaway had a different turbo and intake manifold, along with different injectors and tuning. I think all of that, and more aggressive hp goals (aftermarket vs oem) contributed to the power difference.
Amongst the 944 crowd, I would say that Callaway's are pretty well known and regarded, largely because it really represents the one high profile attempt to squeeze decent power out of the 2.5l engine without selling and buying a turbo haha (which is only kinda funny, because most people say that the Callaway project was pretty much killed by the release of the 951).
If I could get my hands on an original callaway exhaust manifold I would definitely be all over it. It puts the turbo on the passenger side, right near the exhaust ports so it should speed up spoolup time when compared to the 951 manifold. I would imagine that, with minimal tweaking, a nice, tractable 200-210hp car could be made by slapping one of those manifolds and a small turbo pumping 5lbs of boost into the stock manifold. It would probably have better low end torque than a 951 too (higher cr, faster spoolup), even if the peak hp couldn't really compete with the 951s
