Okay, I have a 1984 944NA. I bought the transmision filter change Kit. I see the transmission pan, the line I have to remove to drain the auto trans fluid. No problem there. Now, HOW DO I GET THE NEW FLUID BACK IN? The workshop manual calls for using a big wheeled pump set up. Great if you own a shop, but what about the guy in his driveway? How do I, not the dealer, get the auto trans fluid back in?

Prism Enterprises Inc. make a small hand pump that is used for break bleeding that works well in transfering ATC fron the container to the transmission. It is a slow process because the transmission does not take the fluid as quick as you can pump it.Their web site is: www.mityvac.com

did you check your haynes?
"
1 at specified time intervals, the ATF should be changed.
2 before beginning work buy the fluid
3 you need jackstands, a drain pan capable of 8 qts, newspaper and clean rags
4 the fluid should be changed immediately after the car has been driven
5 after driving, place the car on jakstands for access
6 dont touch the hot exhaust, move the tools under the car
7 place the pan under the lower part of the transmission and remove the fluid tube between the pan and fluid reservoir. be sure the pan is in position, the fluid will come out with some force
8 remove trans pan
9 remove screen filter
10 clean filter screen thorougly with solvent
11 remove all traces of old gasket material from trans and pan, dont gouge or nick the sealing surface!
12 install filter, use new gasket
13 install pan using new gasket
14 install fluid tube, make sure fittings are tightened securely
15 add the specified amt and type of fluid to reservoir (use a funnel to prevent spills) add a little fluid at a time, continually check the level. allow the fluid time to drain into the pan.
16 with selector in P, apply parking brake and start the engine, NO ACCELERATOR, run at idle ONLY
17 with engine idling, check level in reservoir, check for leaks.
18 check fluid to make sure its just below the max mark. DO NOT ALLOW FLUID TO GO ABOVE, if you do you will have to drain excess fluid.
19 drive the vehicle to normal operating temperature. park the vehicle with the engine idling and check the fluid level. the fluid should be at the max mark, if not fill to the max mark... do not overfill!!!
"
thats what the haynes says in a nutshell... doesnt really saw where to fill it, i assume through the reservoir SLOWLY... good things come to those who wait! good luck changing it! it looks like i may do this to a few autos i have here, good thing to read up on!
