Can't go wrong with 16" Fuchs

8" 951 Fuchs on the front, 9" 930 Fuchs on the rear FTW!

Last night I had a dream.

In the dream I found a set of dirty Fuchs from a non-enthusiast. I bought them for $300 and somehow during the dream... which must have lasted 10 minutes, I polished all of the wheels to perfection!

I love polished Fuchs- but I never knew until now...

how much would it cost to get a set of 4 fuchs polished and redone? I have 15 inch fuchs but they still would look pretty nice.

I'd actually prefer my fuchs over newer boxster rims or whatever if they were nicely polished, it just looks classic.

I know the aluminum is anodized so you can't just polish it without removing the anodized coating which looks pretty time consuming and lots of labour.

I just repainted the centres black and they look better than before but if they lips were polished it would look way better.

anyone have a pic of a dark grey or black 944 with fully polished fuchs, like the whole thing? I wonder if that would look good.

Keep dreaming, it takes a lot of effort to get those fuchs looking good.

You have to remove the anodizing with 50 grit, there is no way around this stage. Then you start polishing starting with a grade that removes the marks you have from removing the anodizing, I used 120 first and worked up to 1500.

You then need to paint. I used POR-15 Satin Black for the centers followed by Glisten-PC topcoat over the whole wheel. The wheels will withstand a nuclear exposion, stones bounce off and brake dust just washes off. A quick wipe with a damp cloth and they look like new again.

POR-15:
POR-15 is a high-tech, high performance coating designed for application directly on metal surfaces. It dries to an incredible rock-hard, non-porous finish that won't chip, crack, or peel.

GLISTEN-PC:
GLISTEN PC is a Rock Hard clear topcoat designed for spray or brush application over all metal surfaces, including highly polished aluminum and chrome surfaces.

YOU END UP WITH THESE:

and how long does that take??

I might just repaint my centres for now with por15.

I have some por15 semi-gloss black lying around. I used it to paint my battery tray.

anyways can you just brush it on? por15 says that if you paint areas exposed to sunlight you have to paint over it or it will change colours so the black might change to a grey or discolour in the sun?

if it doesn't then painting it black with por15 would be way better than paint. I spray painted teh centres with wheel paint last year and they are chipping and look like crap again now.

It took me about 10 hours work, I did it over two weekends. You can just brush on por-15, it is self leveling. However it is UV sensitive so will change color unless you topcoat. I applied the clear Glisten PC topcoat over the whole wheel. This way the black stays black and the polished part is protected.

As this hasn't come up yet, you can get a cast 17in Fuchs with polished wide rims and black centers by Rota Fox. They are 7.5in fronts and 9in rears. I have heard good and bad reviews, but they seem to be adequate for a street only car, most of the issues come when they are tracked. Here's the Pelican thread on these.

Perhaps a set of extremely rare deep dish Type A's is up your alley?
