A woman's perspective (not that anyone asked ):

I've noticed most of these AAMCO anecdotes involved women. As a female Porsche owner, I've noticed a *LOT* of mechanics trying to fleece me. Unfortunately for them, my brothers taught me a thing or two about cars. I remember one mechanic tried to talk me into a new timing belt (less than 10K miles after it was done) because he could feel a vibration in the steering while he drove it. I pointed out to him that the motor mounts were shot and that could be the cause of the vibration. This was as I was picking up the car from a radiator hose replacement. Two weeks later the hose blew b/c he installed it against the fan and it cut a whole in it.

I'm willing to bet if you guys had gone in there you wouldn't have gotten the same run around.

I got raped on a 86 Jeep Cherokee, tranny was "replaced" by AAMCO, they failed to install the bellhousing bolts to spec torque, causing a 2 inch gap between the housing and the engine, which caused the bellhousing to crack.

I then discover that its the same fscking tranny I had to begin with.

I threated to sue, I am also an ex-sailor and can light a fool up when needed.

I got my money back, and a new tranny.

Nawwwww, they don't really try to do that just because you're a chic would they? How about this one: AutoRepair.mp3 (scam)? I have a friend that thought everything was perfectly reasonable up until the very end!

I've met that mechanic!! I think he replaced the spare engine in my trunk. Haven't had any problems so far . . . .

Pretty scary that there are people out there that would fall for this. Lets you know how easy it is to rip people off. Pretty amazing (shaking head)
