Wink

I miss typed the previous question refering to the 25.5mm sway bars. I meant torsion bars. I doubt there were ANY sway bars measured in half millimeter increments.

The basic question was; why did the sway (i meant that one) bar decrease to 19mm on the 968 from 21mm on the 951S? What I gather is the helper springs on the M030 option.

Since I have the 88 non S 951, a good upgrade would be 28 or 29mm torsion bars with 300lb springs up front, and the 30mm front sway bar and 21mm rear.

The only remaining problem is saving for the S4 brake upgrade....

Thanks for your help Skip,

Daniel

In fact there was a 25.5mm and 26.8mm sway bar used on the 944 series - remarkable coincedence.

What you have now read in my replies is that the 944 Turbo S and 944 Turbo Cup are two different models. The 951S used a 16mm rear bar with no helper spring. The 951TC used a 21mm rear bar and a ~250# helper spring, among other things. The 19mm bar was never offered on the 951.

Subjective, but very possible - need to also consider what rear tires you plan to run (what front-to-rear ratio, and what aspect ratio). In general terms, the 30/19 setup is more suited for street setups than the 21mm rear would be - is entirely a debatable matter.

Lucky for you most retailers accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and Amex.

Good to know. I always thought the turbo S was built to Cup specifications..

Guys Remember that the 968 M030 was high performance street set-up while the Turbo Cup was a race track set-up. What this means is that a properly set-up and fast race car should have a neutral to oversteering chassis while a street car should have a neutral to understeering chassis to make it safer and more suitable for the street.

Here is a link to lots of detail suspension information..
<a href="http://www.davidsims.ukgateway.net/944t/suspension.htm#Adjusting%20M030%20Koni%20Yellow%20suspension" target="_blank">944 -Suspension Information</a>

Also the 944 Turbo S came stock with a 25.5 mm rear torsion bar

For 300 lbs springs... I'd recommend 28 or 29mm bars

I currently run 350 front and 28 mm rear. This is way too much understeer That I have corrected with weltmeister sway bars (28mm Solid & 22mm solid)

I think Ideal is 350#/30 MM. If I can get my motor in place I will install these before my next race Jan 5th.

I would guess that 300#/29mm would provide a similar balance.

Very closely based on, but not completely the same. Other than the supension differences, the car was delivered "ready to race". With a roll cage, race seats, harnesses, battery cutoff, etc. There are some other small differences throughout the car such as the use of Magnesium wheels and engine parts. At under 200 produced, they are quite rare nowadays... and, Porsche Motorsport no longer supports the parts program, so finding real Turbo Cup parts is quite difficult.

Depending on the stabilizers, yeah - but, most of the cars around here are running 400-450 with 30mm Welt Tbars. I run the 400/30 setup and can massage the rear sway bar enough to create a perfect ever-so-slightly-oversteerer. YMMV

Well for race cars I have also seen 250lbs/30mm. These use weltmeister front bars and stock or turbo rear sway bars. Can be quite effective.

Neutral to oversteer is good for 944 NA race cars.

well see about the 350/30 combo with weltmeister bars...

... In January

Just to pitch in here, the 88 951S had an 18 mm rear sway bar, same as the 87/88 M030 package. The 89 951 started with that bar, then was changed to a 16 mm rear sway bar early in the model year production. Mine is a later car with the nice, safe, understeering 16 mm bar.
