I was considering replacing factory stereo with a new blaupunkt cd player. Then i saw the sony "active black" cd player. Anyone have pics of it installed in their car turned on?

This the kind of Sony you are referring to? Flat and black on the outside with digital stuff, then flips over and you have access to the buttons and more digital stuff? Bad pic I know. I think I have one with it turned on though. They dont show up real well to the camera during the day but at night they are fantastic. You can program the things ad naseum to do and say just about anything. I havent gotten much into it.

This one is a CDX-M750.

USDPride, thanks. Thats exactly the pic i was looking for. I want the 730 (same model, different year). I also have the burgandy leather interior, so i can see exactly what it looks like installed

If you have a chance, can you take a quick pic at night, with the stereo turned on? Thanks

I was always a Kenwood fan, but the Sony looks great and it was the least expensive stereo with 3 sets (front, rear and sub) of rca outs and built in x-over. Mine has worked flawlessly for almost 2 years now. If you want xtra pics I can email you some(face plate open and closed). Mine is an older model and sometimes has trouble playing cdrw's, no probs with cdr's.

sony has extremely bad sound quality reproduction (well not extremely bad), there are much better out there for similar prices... u should try kenwood, jvc, or alpine (i recommend alpine)

Yeah, I haven't really heard good things about Sony car audio systems but I haven't tested them myself.... so...

I have a Blau Toronto with adjustable color on the lighting. Matches the orange dash lighting perfectly, works great with factory 10-speaker system, added a Powered Bazooka in the hatch.

"sony has extremely bad sound quality reproduction (well not extremely bad)"

You were right the first time.

They've completely lost site of form follows function.

Well they all have but at least others have decent amplifiers in them. Sony concentrates more on wiz bang. I think their engineers are deaf.

I would tend to agree with Sony losing sound quality for flashy displays, but I've always thought that they have the best radio reception (tuner).... I would still prefer a Pioneer, Kenwood or Alpine, though. A rockford Forgate would be nice, too.

Oi what's wrong with Blaupunkt folks. I know they haven't always been the best, but I heard a low dough CD player that sounded wonderful. No flash but I don't like flash anyways.

A lot of it depends on Speakers. I run Eclipse and not Sony XPlods. I dont run a Sony amp or Woofer either although I do run a Sony CD-Changer to better work in tandem with the head unit. In defense of Sony though, I listened to the head units one by one and the Sony was hands down the winner. Wasnt even close actually to my ears. At least I was impressed. And unlike the others, I felt the "form and function" of this unit fit perfectly with the Porsche. You can run it discreetly (closed) w/o losing your info, or completely open. It also lights up incredibly bright. My Monterey couldnt tune in a station if the transponder was in the parking lot next door. Agree, the Sonys can be complicated, but the basics are simple and 98% of the time you arent doing more than the basics. I felt the "build quality" was second to none too.

Ive had some of the others, Kenwoods, Pioneers and the dolphins. Im by far most pleased with this one. I almost bought two of them actually, but decided to keep the one I had in my old Acura and get the muffler replaced.

I'll get you that photo of it turned on.

The only real beef I have about it is when it flips open the opened face is facing more up than it is at you. Sort of like its laying on a table, but slightly angled at you. Not a big gripe but a gripe nonetheless. I run the thing closed 98% of the time though.

Im still amazed at Sonys tuning power. Even AM is incredible. Hey, on the drive home from work, even I have to listen to the ballgame.

Like anything though, to each his own!
