That is actually the one I really want. Get me a couple of bucks and then I can put this piece of crap I have in the POrsche into the Duster.

Assuming I ever figure out how to get the center console off.

I have a Pionner DEH-7400 player in my car which is nice because it can play mp3 encoded file. I have 140 songs on one CD!! It has all the EQ features you will ever need and looks awesome also. Then I also have a 5" inch flip out TV above it in my other DIN spot. JVC also makes some really nice units. We sell them at my store and they very rarley go bad. As far as Sony units I would stay as far away from them as possible. They have tuner problems and also the sound quality is horrible compared to what else is on the market.

Give me a break. Sony tuner problems. My tuner is the best Ive ever heard (at least 2yrs ago when I bought it) and I stood in the audio shop for 2.5 hours listening to 25 head units. At least thats MY OPINION and thats how my ears judged things and I think I can hear perfectly fine. That means it was right for me. Others have other personal favorites and thats just as fine. Thats America.

Its funny how just about every topic on here invariably ends up in a pissing match of who knows the real truth and who the moron is who is tone deaf, blind, or whatever. What you may find as crap someone else may find a treasure so I think we all need to lighten up. We're all people here with different tastes, different views, and different partialities. No need to deliberately dump on products you know some people find enjoyment in.

My experience with Sony is more in the home stereo. But some engineers and same company.

My Sonny suuround sound reciever couldn't even run my speakers. Kept having one chanel cut out all the time. And I was able to do a side by side comparison vis-a-vis sound quality with my CS portable system in the next room with a dinky 40 watt amplifier the size of a book. Night and day. Sony sounded like crap. So maybe the tuner can pull in more stations, if the amplifier sounds like hell what's the point.

I also dislike Pioner and other generic name brands. But honestly there are certain names that are known for quality, Marantz, Nackamichi, Kenwwood to name a few. Not many people into sound go running out to get a Sony.

Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuseeeeee me!!!

I bow at all your worldly knowledge of audio. My Sony sounds downright AWESOME. Granted I run some other pieces on my car that arent Sony, but it is absolutely fabulous in my opinion. If course, that only means to the rest of you I am tone deaf. The amp sounds awesome in my not so humble opinion. Tuner problems? Absolutely none. The precise reason I bought this model. The tuner reception is, in a word, incredible. Still is.

I have a Kenwood system in my home and its a total piece of garbage. Does that mean everything Kenwood puts out is garbage? No. Anything but. And that goes for everything else too. My Dads Nakamichi in his old GS300 never worked well from day one? Do you write off all Nakamichis? Hell no! You dont write off anything. You go to the shop, listen, and let your ears and pocketbook decide. End of story.

Hey folks, why dont all of us dumbasses who drive 944s in the wrong color with the wrong options with the wrong stereo components with the wrong rims and with the wrong second car hook up for a brewskie and talk about our vapor lock. Id rather drive with a guy who has a $40 Jensen in his Porsche and who loves it than someone who has a $5000 custom enclosure who spends all day bitching about why he wishes he had a better woofer or who makes it a point to tell the guy with the Jensen his Jensen sucks. I was hoping we were all above that, but, I guess that was my mistake. Again.

heh, my original post mentioned nothing about sony's tuner, i said their sound reproduction quality is sub-par... they cant reproduce sound from a CD as well as an alpine unit... and most new sony models i know of have the push button volume, while alpine has a ****

UD--Sonys aren't neccesarily bad, but in comparison they aren't very good.

Does that mean everyone thinks your an idiot? I doubt it. So you enjoy it, good. Don't worry about what otehrs say about it; it's in YOUR car, YOU listen to it, YOU love it.

I have a Pioneer Premier P730 in my car right now, but I installed it the night before my clutch decided to systematically fail piece by piece, so I haven't enjoyed it in my Porsche yet.

However, I used to have it in my Lumina, and paired with some nice Pioneer 6x9's, people thought I had subs in my car, and that's with no external amp. It has plenty of features, great power/ sound, it looks neat, and is just an all around good reciever. My only problem with it is that it doesn't play MP3's.

It's an aiwa mp3 player. It sounds reasonably good driving 4 (infinity/blaupunkt)high quality 4by6s, an amp feeding two kenwood 6by9s, and a sub with a seperate amp. I would take another picture but my car's in a parkinglot downtown (clutch slave cylinder broke today)... Anyway, I think it's got something like 48 by 4 peak rms, two sets of pre-amp outputs, a remote, etc. I wouldn't consider a cd player that doesn't play mp3s. I used to have a sony explode deck with a cd changer in my last 944, I love having one cd with over a hundred songs on it... I'll take a picture during the day after I fix my car and post it on this tread .

Actually, here's a better picture of it:

I was moving stuff around a lot when that picture was taken, and the surround plate is off. It looks much more integrated with it on, but you can't really see it in the current pictures because of lighting.

Does that sticker in between the gauges says "Made In Germany"?
