I have a Pioneer Premiere ( I forget the model) and it works great for me. Sounds good (I'm no audiophile) with the Planet Audio speakers I have.

personally I rather have a nice basic Blaupunkt cd player. I don't want something really flashy, the factory Blaupunkt cd player is ideal, in my opinion. it doesn't flaunt itself to would-be thefts. I would rather save the money, and get some really good speakers. I also don’t want something with moving lcd, bcs it would be one more thing to brake.

Not to hijack the thread but, does anybody make a head unit without a gazillion color lcd display? They look cheap and ricey to me. And how about a freakin' **** for the volume. I hate the pushbutton volume control things, I want a good old fashioned ****.
Sorry for the vent, but I feel better now.

"I want a good old fashioned ****."
You trying to get me worked up?
Me too, another reason I want to get the Blaupunkt. It's still a resistor pack style **** so it doesn't have infinite resolution but at least it's a **** so while your driving you don't have to go push up push up push up push down push up while your driving.
I never understood why manufacturers got away from *****. A potentiometer is the simpliest most reliable technology there is.
Tis why I stick to Marants stero units at home. Good sound quality and a ****.

i also used to want a plain old blaupunkt cd player. I also wanted it to play cdr/rw and possibly mp3s. II dont want all of the flashy lights and all. But, if you look at the new blaupunkt cd players (especially the mp3 players) they all have about a zillion lights as well. I thought the sony 730 looked the best, and i liked the active black display. Hopefully next years model will play mp3s too.

There are two seperate distinct lines of Blau Cd players. One is silverish with an assloads of lights and such. The other is a flat black with just simplicity and cheaper. The stores tend to carry the high end fancy ones (which often have poorer sound reproduction) Keep looking.

There's a lot to be said for using an OEM Becker unit that has been removed from a 986 or 996. The fit is great, and the stock appearance can't be beat. And hey, it even says "Porsche" on the LCD when you turn on the power.

If you want something that looks "basic", but sounds good. Check out a Nakamichi cd-45Z. Awesome bang for the buck...
Specs here: <a href="http://www.nakamichiusa.com/auto/cdplayers/cd_45_specs.htm" target="_blank">http://www.nakamichiusa.com/auto/cdplayers/cd_45_specs.htm</a>

My car was recently broken in to and the insurance company replaced my Kenwood with a new model. I had never been a big fan of Kenwood, but this new unit sounds good. Its got the ability for the over-kill display, with dolphins and other junk, but I think it looks good with the spectrum display and basic channel/track info.

Guess my online host doesn't allow this feature.
You can still see the pics here though,

I have always had good luck with my Alpine units. The higher models even come with a **** for the volume for those that rather not have push button volume.
