Post Rear cam housing gasket

I fixed my oil leak at the rear of my cam housing by replacing the cork gasket. Flipped me out for a few minutes when I thought a bolt was missing, then realized the housing only has provisions for 3 of the 4 bolt holes. I understand the 944 motor was designed using many parts from the 928, but I would have thought they would design a proper cap and gasket! BTW bolts were only finger tight and the cork gasket was hard and brittle. If you have a leak at the back of the motor, check it! It's a simple cheap fix!

Was this on the 951?
Did you have to drain the oil before changing the gasket?

I'll be doing this within 2 weeks on my car...so just scoping it out.

Yes this was on the 951. Didn't have to drain the oil, the cap just covers the end of the camshaft and provides an oil channel to lubricate it. I had to loosen the one intake bolt that anchors the main wiring harness to move it some so I would have a bit more room. Just remember the cap and gasket have 4 bolt holes, but the housing only has 3; the other hole in the housing is the oil channel. Took about 30 minutes to do it.
