I should be picking up my 86 944T tomorrow and may take it bone stock to the dragstrip. I can't believe more people don't drag race their 944's. You can take a car to the drags and have a great time w/o beating the crap out of it. Your more likely to beat it up on a road coarse than the dragstrip. I guess I should shoot for mid 14's at about 97 mph. That sound about right?

Just out of curiousity, if you don't let the clutch slip and floor it once you have a rolling start - what harm is done in drag racing? (aside from slower times)

I know we have the CVs back there but then again what do the ricers do? All front wheel drive cars have CVs and drag racing is their game.

And notice the ricers hardly ever get traction off the line either..spinning the tires takes pressure off the CVs. 944s will hook up most of the time. It's more a problem with burning up the clutch than CVs though.

By babying off the line you'll do no damage to the clutch especially on street tires. When the boost kicks in you may spin a bit, but even slight slipping, shouldn't fry a clutch and will prevent the car from bogging badly. The 1/4 mile is over so quicky that you don't have time to heat soak anything so it should be a heck of alot easier on your car than road racing or auto-x.
