Sure, just open the head up as if you were replacing the light battery. Then you will see the little spring mechanism which locks the key in place. Get a small pick and compress everything back, and pull the metal key out of the head.
Oops there is a small piece on the end that you have to pull out before compressing the spring piece back. It just pops on and off. Just did it with my fingernails and a ball point pen.,

Three Wheelin'
I just finished making my own key head. I made a couple of copies from Ace and Home Depot and traced the end of the key head onto my new copies with a thin sharpie. I got my makita wheel cutter and some clamps to clamp the key down onto a table with a couple of 2x4s and a vise grip for fine tuning. Here are the instructions for removing the key head.
This is how mine comes apart. Pop cover off using a small flat screwdriver on the side with the indentation.
Remove button and battery
Remove the very small piece of plastic to the outside of the spring. 1/8" sqaure
with great caution - Remove the spring and larger piece of plastic (be careful that spring can really fly)
Now the key is unlocked and will come off the head
Don't loose any pieces!
