Post AC Module Clicking. No AC?

Gruppe:

My 87 944 AC does not come on. The PO says it just went off one day. I can hear clicking from the module now and then. Is this a common problem or should I begin the usual AC diagnostic (which would not include the module, but pressure checks, etc.). Thanks!

Is the clutch in the AC pump good? If it's worn, it could be slipping to the point that it doesn't even work.

Sounds like it is low on freon, take it to an A/C shop and have it charged.

What do I need to do to replace just the clutch? The only clutch on ebay right now costs as much as a whole compressor+clutch, I find it hard to believe there isn't a cheaper solution..

Special tools are required to replace the clutch. You also replace the main shaft seal while you're in there. First put a set of a/c gauges on it to find out what the pressures are.

You can replace the clutch for around $100. You have to take the compressor off the car to pull the clutch off, just isn't enough room for the puller. It might be better just to replace the entire compressor, if the clutch is worn out, the compressor may be next.
