Default Turn Signal/High Beam Problem

Hey guys,

Well, I broke my turn signal switch when I had the dash out and now Im running into some problems.

I was driving during the day using manual signaling and not at night because the High Beams are stuck ON. I picked up a used switch, one that sure has seen better days and plugged it in today. Again, nothing works. Could this be a relay issue too?

Sounds like the ground for that switch in the steering column - something thinks you're holding the stalk down for the high beams.

But the only wiring in the Area is the plugs that are attached to the switches. Those couldnt be the culprit. This happens when the switch is removed or attached.

What about the contacts for the switches in the steering column? I know ALL about how those can randomly trigger a horn blast.

No triggered horn blasts, in fact the horn doesnt work either.

The contacts seem like theyre doing their job. A little old, but they LOOK functional....

Now, I replaced the relay for the turn signals. Nothing, all fuses are good and the switch seems to be working. Is there anything else I could have fried?

The High Beams are still stuck on even with the Turn Signal, High Beam Switch Removed!

What the hell is going on here?

Do you know where the wires run into, by any chance? I know they leave the switch then run into the dash, but where? I was thinking that (where they run to) could be the culprit.

I don't, but I know a few people have the electrical diagrams. Perhaps one of those folks can show up and help us out.

Okay,

It is not the switch. It can't be. I just tried three different ones and I have the problem.

The horn is fixed, because of the switch. But now, the high beams are still stuck on, and the turn signals do not work. Also, the flashers DO work.

First person to fix this gets 5$ via PayPal for a beer. Minors need not apply.

Ok this is for 85/2 and up..
G2= relay, G4 Flasher relay, G12 High beam relay
Check grey wire on turn signal switch for ground..pin 1
Front harness headlights white/yellow power right pin c21, white/green power left pin c31 for high beams ..obv 12v if always on now.
High beam relay G12 seems to be stuck allowing power to pass through to pins c21 and c31 but check for ground in the switch pin 1 gray wire first to see if it is grounded.
Turn signal relay G4 shares power on pin31 with G12 on pin 85

Replace relay viii it is above fuses 4 and 5 and second over from the left. It is the additional high beam relay used on some models. I think you already replaced the turn sig flasher relay which is above fuses 11 and 12.. This is for and 84/1
